What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty of the Red Rocks, particularly the dramatic red cliffs meeting the crystal-clear Adriatic waters. The sea caves and opportunities for swimming and cliff jumping are frequently highlighted as major draws. Some note that arriving early or via a private boat offers a more peaceful experience compared to crowded tour boats.
"Really cool to see the big rocks going straight down in the deep ocean. With two different caves this is a cool place for anyone who has access to a boat. Definitely recommend to visit this place."

"I have visited this beautiful place twice. First time we came with boat. Second time I have started with sup from my favorite beach Dubovica. You need to walk 10 to 15 minutes to reach the beach. If calm sea you can reach it in 30 to 40 minutes but be careful and check weather forecast. I was not able to return because of strong wind, current and waves so I have used marked mountain trail from nearby beach Piscena to Dubovica to return by foot so you need inflatable sup of course. Next time I will come with sup from Sveta Nedjelja which is not so close. Cliffs are vertical going to sea and there are several little caves you can enter. Color of cliffs is red of course."

"Lovely place to go for a dive. You can swim through some caves, and people were climbing cliffs and doing some cliff jumping."

The Geology of the Red Rocks
These formations are a testament to the powerful forces of nature, shaped by erosion from wind and waves. The vertical drop into the sea adds to their dramatic appearance, making them a unique natural attraction on Hvar Island. The presence of breccia layers, as mentioned in some descriptions, further adds to the geological complexity and visual interest of the site.
Experiencing the Red Rocks by Water
For a more active and personal adventure, kayaking or paddleboarding is a fantastic option. Launching from beaches like Dubovica allows for a scenic journey, typically taking 10-15 minutes of paddling. However, it's crucial to be prepared for changing sea conditions. One traveler shared an experience where strong winds and waves made returning difficult, necessitating a hike back via a marked trail. This highlights the importance of checking weather forecasts and being ready for unexpected challenges when exploring by personal watercraft.
Adventure Activities at Crvene Stijene
For those with climbing experience, the vertical rock faces offer opportunities for deep water soloing (DWS). This unique form of climbing involves ascending routes over water, with the sea serving as a natural safety net. While specific DWS routes might require local knowledge, the potential for such activities is evident in the dramatic topography. The caves also offer a unique perspective for those who enjoy exploring underwater environments with masks and snorkels.
