What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Cementerio Museo San Pedro a worthwhile visit for its impressive mausoleums and historical significance, offering a unique glimpse into Colombian funerary customs and the lives of prominent figures. While the artistry and history are appreciated, some note the lack of explanatory plaques and the need for a guide to fully understand the context. The surrounding area's safety is also a point of caution for some travelers.
"It's worth a visit if you enjoy visiting historic cemeteries as there are many interesting tombs and sculptures to see. There are a few notable Colombians buried here but you will miss them unless you have a guide or a Paisa friend to explain the history to you as there are no explanatory plaques. The rich of Medellin used to bury their loved ones here back when Centro had grand estates and before it was abandoned for El Poblado. I was impressed with the amount of old marble art work which had to be imported from Europe and then carried by mules overland in the Andes.
This is still a functioning cemetery so remember to be respectful of the people grieving. Also, note that the area around the cemetery is not really the safest so avoid walking the streets around."

"This is an excellent place to learn about the funerary customs and traditions of Colombia - while respecting the privacy and dignity of grieving families because this is an active cemetery. Signage is in Spanish and English. Some of Antioquia’s most prominent figures are buried here and we learned a lot about the history of the region by goggling names as we walked around. Access to the cemetery is easy by Metro - there is a station very close by."

"A lot of history and important people is here."
