Reviews Summary
This massive duty-free complex is a premier shopping destination, particularly for those flying domestically within China. Visitors praise its scale, luxury brand selection, and modern design, with interactive beauty experiences being a highlight. However, international travelers departing China often face disappointment due to strict eligibility rules, and some note that prices aren't always the lowest, with airport collection logistics requiring careful attention.
"The mall is only for locals and for domestic flights within China. I'm utterly disappointed and don't see a point of coming to Sanya again... advanced flight back for civilization.... Attached is the only pathetic shop that a foreigner can buy, pathetic items ....."

"If you are a foreigner and heading out of hainan dao directly, you cannot buy anything from the mall. It’s duty free for their locals, not foreigners."

"Cdf mall
Who is it for? if you are in the Haitiang area, this is a conviennat name brand mall to check out as long as you bring your ID/passport and travel documents with you.
If you are in the Sanya area by the airport, the one hour trek to this mall is NOT WORTH IT.
Any purchase made at cdf stores (there are at least two on each floor of the C building) will result in you leaving with just a receipt to retrieve your purchase in the airport!
This requires
1. you remember to retrieve your items after clearing security checks,
2. there is no mixup and your items are waiting for you
3. your items are small in quantity because you can not put them in your checked luggage- You must carry them on to the plane.
4. if you have a connecting flight, these purchases will not put you over the 200ml carry on requirement, in which case you will have to discard them.
They have common name brands, but definitely not all. The prices are not phenomenally different.
The mall could use more seating options in the common areas. If this is truly meant to be a tourist attraction, they definitely need more English speaking employees in the shops.
The highlight of the one hour journey to this place was getting wine/beer at the Shake Shack.
The sign on the door tells you you need documents in order to shop, regardless if you are Chinese or a foreigner, so don't come empty handed."

Navigating Duty-Free Purchases
For those eligible, the process involves presenting your ID or passport along with your flight details for an upcoming domestic journey. Purchases are not taken home immediately; instead, they are collected at designated counters in the airport after you have passed through security. This system requires careful planning, as all duty-free items must fit within your carry-on luggage, and adherence to liquid restrictions (typically 200ml) is paramount.
Travelers have noted that while the selection is vast, prices may not always be as low as expected compared to international markets, and some high-end brands might focus more on perfumes and cosmetics than a full range of apparel or accessories. It's also worth noting that some visitors have experienced limited English-speaking staff, so having a translation app handy might be beneficial.
The Scale and Experience of CDF Mall
Beyond the shopping, the complex features immersive brand experiences, particularly in the beauty sector. Brands like Clé de Peau Beauté, Armani Beauty, and Make Up For Ever have created interactive boutiques and showcases, allowing visitors to engage with products in innovative ways, such as through hand-tracking technology for makeup tutorials. The mall also hosts events and brand launches, sometimes featuring celebrity appearances, adding an element of excitement for shoppers.
Despite its grandeur, some reviews suggest the mall could benefit from more seating in common areas and a wider variety of products beyond cosmetics and perfumes for certain brands. However, for eligible shoppers, it remains a premier destination for luxury goods, offering a unique retail experience within the tropical setting of Sanya.
