What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the spectacular, unparalleled views of Guilin's karst landscape from Yaoshan Mountain, calling it the 'best view in the world.' The cable car ride is a memorable part of the experience, offering great perspectives. However, weather is a critical factor, and summer crowds can detract from the enjoyment.
"The beautiful view of Guilin's unrivalled karst landscape from Yaoshan mountain - the highest mountain in Guilin - was well worth the ride up via chairlift.
The ride up via chairlift was stable and smooth (on a clear sunny winter morning) with guides on hand at the boarding and lighting platform to assist one in getting on and off the chairlift.
Pay on demand (via QR.code) binoculars are available for a closer look at Guilin's many karst peaks."
Christine Lee
"Located not far outside of Guilin city. It can be reached by bus or better use local tourist bus as you can book to go to Reed Flute cave on the same route. The cable car can be very crowded during summer months. You get nice view on the way up to the top. Once up there the view is pretty good of the mountain along the Li River. Better go early in the morning and bring some snacks and drinks."
Paul Basuki
"There are many cloudy days. If you go on a nice weather day... it will be truly spectacular..."

Yaoshan Mountain is located a short distance from Guilin city. You can reach it by bus, but taking a local tourist bus is often recommended as it can be combined with visits to other nearby attractions like the Reed Flute Cave.
While local buses serve the area, it's advisable to plan your return trip in advance, especially if you're not on a guided tour. Check bus schedules or consider pre-arranging a taxi if needed.
For the best views, aim for a clear, sunny day. The journey itself via the cable car offers great perspectives, so consider the time of day for optimal lighting and fewer people.
Local tourist buses are frequently mentioned as a convenient option for reaching Yaoshan and often include stops at other popular Guilin sights. Inquire locally for the most current routes.
While driving might be possible, parking availability and local traffic conditions can vary. Using public transport or tourist buses is generally more straightforward for visitors.
🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
Admission fees typically cover the cable car ride up the mountain. Payment is often via QR code. It's best to check current pricing upon arrival or through local tour operators.
The cable car usually operates during daylight hours. It's advisable to check the specific operating times, especially during peak seasons or holidays, to ensure you have enough time for your visit.
Advance ticket purchase options might be limited. Many visitors purchase tickets on-site, often via QR code payment. Arriving early can help avoid queues.
Discounts may be available for certain groups like children or seniors, but this is not always widely advertised. It's worth inquiring at the ticket counter.
The primary ticket usually includes the round-trip journey on the cable car and access to the summit viewing areas. Binoculars might be available for rent separately.
🎫 🏞️ Onsite Experience
The summit offers a spectacular panoramic view of Guilin's iconic karst landscape, often described as the 'best view in the world.' You can see numerous peaks along the Li River.
The cable car ride is generally described as stable and smooth, but some visitors find it dizzying due to the height and the steep ascent. If you have a fear of heights, be prepared.
The main activity is enjoying the breathtaking views. You can also use binoculars for a closer look at the karst formations and take photos.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, especially if you plan to explore the viewing areas. Dress in layers as mountain weather can change. :athletic_shoe:
The cable car ride can be an adventure for kids, and the views are impressive. However, supervision is essential due to the heights and uneven terrain in some viewing spots.
📸 📸 Photography
Early morning or late afternoon often provide the best light for photography, with softer shadows and warmer hues. Clear weather is paramount for capturing the full karst panorama.
A wide-angle lens is ideal for capturing the expansive landscape. A telephoto lens can be useful for zooming in on distant karst peaks. Don't forget extra batteries! :camerawithflash:
The main summit viewing platforms offer the most comprehensive vistas. Look for spots that frame the Li River with the karst formations.
Drone usage is typically restricted at popular tourist attractions to ensure safety and avoid disturbing other visitors. It's best to check local regulations before flying.
Weather is the biggest challenge; cloudy days can obscure the views. Also, crowded conditions during peak times can make it difficult to get unobstructed shots.

The Unique Karst Landscape
From the summit of Yaoshan, the highest mountain in Guilin, visitors are treated to a sweeping panorama of these iconic peaks. The view is often described as breathtaking and is a major draw for tourists seeking to experience the quintessential Guilin scenery. The clarity of the view is heavily dependent on weather conditions, making a clear day a truly spectacular experience.
For those interested in geology or simply appreciating natural beauty, the karst formations are a highlight. The sheer density and variety of shapes and sizes of these peaks create a visually stunning spectacle that is unique to this region of China.
Navigating the Cable Car Experience
However, it's worth noting that the cable car can be quite dizzying for individuals with a fear of heights due to the significant elevation gain and the steepness of the climb. Guides are typically present at the boarding and disembarking platforms to assist passengers.
During peak seasons, especially in the summer months, the cable car can become very crowded. To ensure a more pleasant experience and potentially shorter wait times, it's recommended to visit early in the morning or during off-peak days.
The Rhinogobius Yaoshanensis
These small, colorful fish are a fascinating example of the unique biodiversity found in the mountain's ecosystem. While not a primary attraction for most tourists visiting the mountain for its views, it highlights the ecological significance of the area.
The genus Rhinogobius is characterized by its distinctive snout, and the species name yaoshanensis directly honors its discovery location. This connection between the natural landscape and its endemic species adds another layer of appreciation for the Yaoshan area.
