"There isn't actually very much left of the fort and the cannons, while of the right period, aren't originally from here. It still gets 4 stars because it offers beautiful views over the city and the bay, the admission is free and it is very well kept. There is an interesting obelisk commemorating both the first republican governor of Chiloè (after gaining its independence, amost 8 years after the rest of Chile) and the last Spanish governor of the area. A nice way to commemorate history without discriminating between "winners and losers". On the short walk to the fort there are some kiosk selling local artisan products (woolen hats, wooden souvenirs and so on)"
