"Visit June 29,2025
It’s 10 minutes steep down trail from parking lot to the Canyon. A little difficult when you go back up after. The river and the Canyon are amazing , the view , the water sounds so relaxing. Nice area to take amazing photos, just take care if rocks near the Mistaya river are slippery."

"Mistaya Canyon is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful stops along the Icefields Parkway. Located about 75 kilometers north of Lake Louise, the trail head begins at a parking lot, from which a partly steep hiking trail leads about 10 minutes down into the valley and to a bridge. The steadily increasing noise then announces an extraordinary natural phenomenon: Mistaya Canyon - a winding, dark gray gorge with white-foaming whirlpools and impressive small waterfalls. Despite this impressive natural spectacle, you should be careful: the edges of the rock slabs can be very slippery! If you have a little more time, bring sturdy shoes and food and hike up on the other side to Howse Pass (10 km there and back), from where you have more great views of Mistaya Canyon. If you don’t have that much time, a stop at the canyon alone is absolutely worthwhile!"

"Mistaya Canyon is a standout stop on the Icefields Parkway. The trail can be steep in parts, but the breathtaking views of the waterfall and canyon make it well worth the effort. With multiple viewpoints and access to the river, this loop trail is a must-visit. I stumbled upon the trailhead by chance and was blown away by its beauty. Even with kids in tow, we were all in awe of the stunning scenery. Highly recommend this place."
