What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Copeland Forest for its extensive network of diverse trails, offering both flat riverside walks and challenging hilly hikes. The free parking and accessibility make it a popular choice for a nature escape. However, the lack of on-site facilities like restrooms and garbage bins, along with occasional littering, are noted drawbacks.
"We had 2 amazing 9km hikes here over the weekend. Just a 1/2 drive from Barrie, this is a great place to go for literally any length of hike. There are kilometres and kilometres of trails and loops. There are riverside hikes that are flatter and hilly hikes with a bit of elevation. We’ll definitely be back for more. Easy, free parking as well. The only downside would be that there are no garbages at the parking sites, nor any bathrooms or port-a-potties."

"I found this place by accident in my travels exploring the area. I didn't make any use of the trails but as a rail fan this place was amazing! CPKC has tracks at the parking spot (be very careful here! The tracks are on a bend and the trains come through very fast!). If I'm ever back in that area I will be stopping by there. Very peaceful."

"Quiet, secluded trail that we explored before we went to Vetta spa nearby. No major view points or bodies of water. Recommend bringing bug spray!"

Navigating the Trails

It's advisable to wear sturdy footwear as some areas can have exposed roots or become icy during cooler months.
While the trails are well-defined, it's always a good idea to have a general sense of direction or a trail map if available. The diverse landscape ensures that no two hikes feel exactly the same, encouraging repeat visits to explore different routes and enjoy the changing seasons.
Rail Fan's Delight (with Caution)

If you choose to visit this area, do so with the utmost respect for the operational railway. Observe from a safe distance and be aware of your surroundings. The peacefulness of the forest combined with the occasional rumble of a passing train can be a memorable experience, but only if approached with safety as the paramount concern.
Environmental Responsibility
This is compounded by the unfortunate lack of garbage bins and restrooms within the forest. Visitors are strongly urged to practice Leave No Trace principles. This means packing out everything you pack in, including all trash, food scraps, and any other waste.
By taking responsibility for your waste, you help preserve the natural beauty of Copeland Forest for future visitors and protect the local wildlife that inhabits the area. Being mindful of your impact ensures this natural gem remains a pristine destination.
