What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Collingwood Museum for its engaging exhibits on local history, particularly its maritime heritage, and its family-friendly hands-on activities. The optional donation entry is a welcome feature, and staff are noted for being knowledgeable and friendly. However, some exhibits, like the Black History display, have been criticized for lacking proper sourcing and academic rigor.
"Nice place to pop by when in the area. Can complete in under an hour. Very clean and tidy. Lots of great exhibits on local history. Fun for kids as well with some hands-on activities. Open Tuesdays to Saturdays."
Hillary Handy
"Nice little museum with some interesting exhibits. I did find aspects of the travel Black history exhibit troubling - numerous times information was present as fact with very little or no proper sources or documentation - "African World History" printed like a newspaper is not a credible source! And etc. Plastic beads from the 1990s are the only example of historic African beading? This display comes off like some high schooler's presentation, with no oversight from adults who know any better. And it's not like the information isn't out there, it is. But it does need to be properly sourced."

"Interesting museum. The good and bad aspects of local history. $5 optional donation to enter."
