She gives a name to each garden and alley in ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the stunning beauty and historical significance of Balchik Palace and its Botanical Garden, praising the diverse plant collections and charming architecture. However, the experience is often marred by a mandatory combined ticketing policy, cash-only payments, and occasional reports of poor staff conduct, leading to frustration for some. Reddit

"Price for entering is 30 lev per person, technically it's 15 but they force you to buy ticket for the castle as well. Can easily spend 4 5 hours in these beautiful garden without getting bored. Not being able to pay by card or online it is indeed something the administration need to work on. it's 2025... get with the times please 🤗"

"1/5 – Very Disappointing Experience at Balchik Botanic Garden- I wish i could be able to give 0 stars

I have been visiting the Balchik Botanic Garden every summer for the past 8 years, but this year was extremely disappointing.

Visitors are now forced to purchase two tickets—one for the Botanic Garden and one for the Castle—even if they only wish to see the Garden. This policy is unreasonable, especially since the Castle is located on the opposite side of the royal domain, and ticket checks are in place before entering the Castle. There are even separate kiosks for Garden and Castle tickets, which makes this rule even harder to understand.

When I explained at the ticket counter that I wanted to visit only the Botanic Garden, I was sold the correct tickets. However, at the security checkpoint, my entry was denied. Worse, one of the guards acted aggressively, even touching me, and staff refused to refund my tickets. I was left with no option but to call the police. Only after this the staff agree to issue a refund.

The police officers were professional and polite, but they themselves admitted that this type of incident happens here frequently.

It is unacceptable for such a beautiful and important tourist attraction to be managed by poor management, aggressive staff, and unfair ticketing policies. I truly hope that the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria investigates this situation and ensures visitors are treated with respect."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Legacy of Queen Marie

Balchik Palace holds a special place in history as the beloved summer residence of Queen Marie of Romania. Fascinated by the natural beauty of the area, she commissioned the construction of the palace and its surrounding gardens in the early 20th century. Her vision was to create a sanctuary that harmonized with the landscape, a requirement that shaped the unique architecture and layout of the complex. Instagram+1

Spanning a considerable area, it houses an impressive collection of over 2,000 plant species from around the globe, meticulously arranged into thematic sections. Instagram+1

One of the garden's most celebrated features is its extensive collection of cacti and succulents, one of the largest in Europe. Navigating Ticketing and Visitor Experience

The visitor experience at Balchik Palace and Botanical Garden can be a mixed bag, with ticketing policies often being a point of contention. Many visitors report being required to purchase a combined ticket for both the Palace and the Botanical Garden, even if they only intend to visit one. This has led to frustration, especially when the two attractions are geographically separated within the complex. Reddit

Furthermore, the insistence on cash-only payments at a time when card transactions are standard can be inconvenient for international travelers. Some reviews mention aggressive staff behavior and difficulties in obtaining refunds when issues arise, highlighting a need for improved customer service and clearer ticketing procedures. Reddit

Despite these challenges, the inherent beauty and historical significance of the site often outweigh the administrative hurdles for many. Visitors who manage to navigate the ticketing system and enjoy the grounds generally find the experience rewarding, particularly those who appreciate the natural beauty and historical context.
