There’s also a lake you can have a picnic lunch nearby or hiking trails if you are wanting to explore. #perth #dateideas #daytrip #perthtodo #perthisok #perthdateideas #caves

The guided tours, which last about 45 minutes, provide fascinating insights into the cave's history, geology, and the unique ecosystem. Visitors can expect to see a variety of natural cave formations, including stalagmites, helictites, columns, and shawls.

The cave is well-maintained, featuring new stairs and handrails for safer entry and exit. Inside, the temperature remains consistently cool, providing a welcome relief on hot days. "This cave is on Yanchep National Park grounds and is easily accessible. However, I believe they lock the gates to the parking area by 4pm.

There are a couple picnic tables and a toilet block available. There is a small entrance with a booth for a tour guide/ranger. Also there are a few informational poster boards. The Rangers booth does not sell tickets. You can purchase tickets at The McNess (up to 15 minutes before tour) house on Yanchep grounds or purchase online (up to 2 hours before tour).

The entrance descending into the cave is not too narrow or steep. As well as the few brief low ceilings were not that difficult to pass through.

The tour guide was lovely and very informative. She did inform us that you could take photos but videos were prohibited.

The stalactites & stalagmites were beautiful and the cave areas were well lit enough to enhance the features.

We took a bag with water bottles, however we were informed no food or drink allowed. Plain water was permitted.

The tour was not very long, we observed a 35 minute tour.

Enjoy the beautiful natural formed calcite🌟"

"It was a lovely experience, but it’s a little overpriced where they charge you. Typical Australian prices costs around every corner.. the tour guild who took us into cave was very knowledgeable and accommodating for all the guests. I would recommend the crystal cave but be aware that there’s only certain times that they open and you need to book a ticket prior to entry which is obtained from the visitor Centre. Also tickets are limited to the amount of people that can enter the cave. Apparently you can book tickets online so to avoid disappointment I would suggest doing that or else you have to wait until the next session. It is worthwhile stopping at the pub the Yanchep inn for lunch or a drink. Would highly recommend going."

The Geology and Formations of Crystal Cave

Crystal Cave is a testament to the slow, continuous process of geological formation over thousands of years. The cave is a limestone cavern, meaning it was formed by the dissolution of soluble rocks, primarily limestone, by slightly acidic water. As water seeps through the rock, it dissolves the calcium carbonate, creating underground passages and chambers. Instagram

Inside, visitors will find a spectacular array of speleothems, which are the mineral deposits that form in caves. These include stalactites (hanging from the ceiling) and stalagmites (rising from the floor), which can grow over centuries to form impressive columns when they meet. You'll also see delicate helictites, which grow in defiance of gravity, and other formations like shawls and curtains, all sculpted by dripping water and mineral deposition. The cave's lighting is carefully managed to enhance these natural wonders without causing damage. Reddit

The consistent cool temperature within the cave plays a crucial role in preserving these delicate formations. This stable environment allows for the slow growth of crystals and prevents rapid erosion. The guided tours provide detailed explanations of how these formations are created, offering a fascinating glimpse into the earth's natural artistry. Instagram
