"Hubby and I took a long drive from Brisbane to check out the Archibald Prize finalists. This is a great regional gallery, with a small shop, and helpful volunteers. We loved the exhibition, and the spaces in the building. We had a great time!"
Sherry Mackay
"This is a great regional gallery which usually has three different exhibitions running to maximise the chance that something will appeal. On my most recent visit—yesterday—there was a dark and thought provoking exhibition about Indigenous massacres by Australian colonisers centred around the Myall Creek massacre (one of the few times justice was served and the white perpetrators were hung). There was also “Abundant Wonder” an exhibition by Melbourne artist, Tom Moore. It’s a fantastical and fun glass exhibition that I enjoyed viewing. Staff make you feel welcome by taking the time to explain the exhibitions and chat without being intrusive."
Jackie McMillan
"This modern gallery is located in Peel Street, just outside of the main shopping precinct. It occupies the same building as the Library but the Gallery is located upstairs. There is a lift.
when the visiting exhibition was "Reality in Flames" Australian Art in the second World War on loan from the Australian War Memorial. There were, what I considered to be, some good paintings, particularly one from Russell Drysdale, and some other paintings from well known artists. However, overall I found this exhibition plus the emotive exhibition on display in the smaller exhibition area to be quite depressing.
I understood from the friendly staff member on duty that the Gallery has regular visiting exhibitions.
There was also a small shop."
