What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about the Hydro Majestic's unique architecture, stunning Megalong Valley views, and friendly staff, calling it a 'magic castle' and a 'museum.' However, some rooms are noted as needing renovation, with dated carpets and obstructed views, leading to disappointment for the price point. Despite these cons, the overall experience is often described as a memorable and charming escape.
"Spent the last 2 nights in this beautiful hotel. We received an upgrade to the valley view rooms as we were celebrating a birthday which was a nice gesture. Marcus at reception was great, very helpful and pleasant. Service was very good all round. We enjoyed breakfast twice at the Wintergarden with an excellent food selection.
Yes, as I read in other reviews, the rooms are a bit outdated but you don’t stay at the Hydro Majestic expecting it to be new and modern, you stay here because you appreciate history and luxury from past decades. Everywhere you look there is a piece of history you won’t find anywhere else.
We had a beautiful stay and hope to be back."

"Really unique and fun experience at the Hydro Majestic! Our stay included high tea at the wintergarden which was lovely. The best part was the beautiful view out the large windows throughout the hotel. Super close to the intercity train and a convenient bus stop that took us to all the best hiking trails nearby. Don’t miss the pavilion — it has some fun historical facts about the hotel’s past. Would absolutely recommend staying here."

"We had a lovely mid-week stay at the Hydro Majestic. The views from the hotel are absolutely magnificent, overlooking the Megalong valley. The staff was extremely responsive and courteous, and the high tea was luxurious.
We came by train from Sydney and were able to get around to Blackheath and Katoomba by public transport to go bushwalking. There’s not really anything to do in the town of Medlow bath, so it was good to be able to get around easily."

A Journey Through Time: The Hydro Majestic's Architecture
The West Wing is a highlight for lovers of the Art Deco era, featuring a beautiful grand staircase and opulent decor that evokes the glamour of the 1930s and 40s. This wing offers a distinct contrast to the older sections, providing a journey through different design periods. It's this very lack of uniformity, the blend of styles and the quirky layout, that many visitors find utterly charming and adventurous, likening it to a 'magic castle.'
While the hotel's unique character is a major draw, it's worth noting that some areas, particularly guest rooms, may show signs of age and could benefit from renovation. However, for those seeking an experience steeped in history and character, the Hydro Majestic's architectural tapestry is an unforgettable feature. Key terms to remember are Edwardian, Art Deco, and its sprawling, multi-winged structure.
The Iconic High Tea Experience
While the views are consistently praised, the food itself receives mixed reviews. Many find the scones to be a standout, perfectly complemented by the tea selection. However, some guests feel the savory items can be average for the price point, which can range from $60 to $70 per person, varying by day and package. To make the most of your visit, booking in advance is highly recommended, especially for weekend slots, and aiming for a weekday session might offer a more relaxed atmosphere and better seating choices. Pro-tip: Consider the time of day; an earlier session might give you a better chance at a prime window seat. :tea:

The stunning views, coupled with elegant dining options and the unique historical setting, create a memorable backdrop for special occasions. Whether it's celebrating an anniversary or simply enjoying a quiet weekend away, the Hydro Majestic offers a distinctive and charming retreat. Key considerations for a romantic stay include booking a room with a valley view and perhaps enjoying a sunset cocktail. :couplewithheart:
