"Our first stop of the day was Hopkins Falls, located only about 13km (around 14 minutes) from Warrnambool. The drive out was very scenic, with lush green countryside thanks to recent rain, which made the journey itself quite enjoyable.
Arriving at the falls, you cross a small bridge before entering a car park that has plenty of space, including areas suitable for caravans as well as single cars. There are picnic tables and open grassy areas, making it a good spot to stop and relax. From the car park, two viewing platforms provide excellent vantage points from the side of the falls. The real highlight though is walking down the hill, where well-maintained stairs and a path take you closer to the base. From there you get a spectacular near front-on view of the water cascading over the wide rock ledge.
The water flow was strong during our visit, and the spray combined with the sound of rushing water created a memorable atmosphere. It’s also a fantastic location for photography, with the surrounding landscape of open fields and gum trees framing the scene beautifully. We arrived at around 9:30am outside school holiday time and found it very peaceful with only a few others there.
If you’re in Warrnambool, Hopkins Falls is definitely worth the short drive. A beautiful natural wonder that won’t disappoint."
