"Newtown Bridge, I'm so glad my eyes spotted this little bridge while filling up my vehicle at the Shell petrol station Beechworth on Bridge Rd
This beautiful little historical bridge built in 1850s was once made of timber and it would have seen a lot of vehicles over its time from horse & cart to the vehicle of this 20th century with being one of the main roads heading into & out of Beechworth!
In 1884, the township decided that the old timer Bridge be that the original bridge was to be replaced with a granite bridge that would service the community for the next 200 years!
A 150-year-old later, Newtown Bridge is indeed still standing as with little evidence of erosion, breakage, or movement!
The river running under this little 25mt long bridge is Spring Creek, which the Creek had a bit to do with built Beechworth as the old sawmill supplied the timber of Beechworth when the stream machinery era was around...
There's a great viewing area to this stunning little waterfall is just down the road from Shell petrol station at the intersection of Ford St Bridge Rd turn down Gorge Rd and it about 100mts on the right hand side."
