I am not recommending that you try the most commonly eaten vegetable in Vietnam but rather, I am recommending the Morning Glory Restaurant, a restaurant that all visitors to Hoi An should try. Operated by Ms Vy who also runs a cooking school, this restaurant offers gourmet Vietnamese dining experience within the ancient town. The menu is extensive, prices are slightly higher than what you could expect in Hoi An but the food is value for money.

The lasagne is well sized and tasty, although possibly not as tasty as the one in Morning Glory Signature in my view. Having said that, it is certainly bigger and the garlic bread here is much better, and as I enjoy eating lasagne with garlic bread, the overall experience is tied. The ravioli is good also, although I have to say I prefer the pumpkin ravioli to the meat one, and as a man who likes his meat, this is no easy thing to say.

Incredible for both quality and price, Morning Glory is not to be missed. Head there early to avoid a queue and grab a booth inside where all the action is (you’ll likely have backpackers on one side of you and golden oldies on the other, such is this little gem’s appeal). We adored the Hoi An speciality Banh Bao Banh Vac (white rose dumplings), the five-spice pork belly and the papaya salad with sesame beef.

Then, I would hesitantly recommend Morning Glory, which is a relatively famous restaurant right in the heart of the Ancient Town. The cao lau here wasn’t life-changing, but it was solid and the best we had at a “fancy” restaurant (“fancy” being a highly relative term in Vietnam). The pork in the cao lau was very good and there were not one but two types of crispy crackers.

From the outside, it looks like the kind of place that I usually try to avoid; an expensive tourist trap in the heart of the historic town serving inauthentic food. Luckily, it is neither of those things.
