My next venture, Cargo Club, opened with a varied menu western dishes for those missing a taste of home while they were away enjoy them too so I opened Morning Glory to give guests a broad view of the Vietnamese culinary landscape - what we eat, how we eat, and when we eat. Traditional dishes, celebratory dishes, comfort foods, workers’ meals, medicinal foods, street foods and snacks - covering all aspects of our daily lives.

A little on the pricier side but well worth it for the great views from the balcony overlooking the Thu Bon River. It’s an ideal spot for a weekend breakfast but really, all the food here is beautifully prepared. With both local and western dishes to choose from, plus an extensive selection of pastries and cakes in the bakery downstairs, this is a place to truly treat yourselves.

In the Afternoon, take a walk tour to Hoian ancient town, then visit the traditional Fukien assembly hall, Japanese Cover Bridge and Tan Ky ancient house. Ater that, take your free time to discover the town on your own or go shopping before having dinner with some of the most famous local food in Hoian, such as Com Ga (Chicken Rice) and Cao Lau. On my next trip I would try V’s Market Restaurant at 3 Nguyen Hoang St. and Morning Glory Signature at 41 Nguyen Phuc Chu St. and Morning Glory Original at 106 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. I ordered a traditional Vietnamese curry, which was served inside a burning coconut shell, with a sticky rice mango pudding for dessert.

The best part of the Cargo Club, aside from the baby pavlova that made me feel like I was back home in New Zealand, is by far the rooftop terrace with a view over the Thu Bon River and its lantern boats. Head here in the morning for a calm breakfast stop or pop in for an afternoon pick-me-up after a busy day of shopping.

A beautiful lunch will be ready in the private space at Cargo Club, which you can get the great view of Thu Bon river and the ancient town of Hoi An from the balcony of the restaurant.
