The cool name is rather appropriate—if you weren't hungry before entering this cozy place, you will be after the enticing smells reach you. A rich-looking dining room outfitted with plush leather couches and stone walls makes you want to linger. Breakfast burritos and Belgian waffles are nice ways to start the day.

The first time I visited Williamsburg on a weekend, we weren’t able to get in here on a Sunday morning. When I visited during the week in the fall I knew this was the first spot I wanted to go since it’s one of the best breakfast restaurants in Williamsburg. You walk up to the counter (right side when you walk in) to order and they have menus beside the door outside or at one of the small tables near the counter inside.

When it is time to study, you can escape the library and settle down in the corner of one of the many cozy coffee shops in the area: Aroma’s on Prince George Street is always bustling, Illy Caffe on Duke of Gloucester Street (DOG Street to the locals) offers fantastic pastries, but a trek by car to Tipsy Bean’s gets you away from the excitement of campus and in line for some of the best tasting coffee in town.

This place has the right name – you can smell the aroma all the way down Prince George Street. The Aroma "therapy" menu runs the gamut from Stimulating to Tranquil to Contemplative – and those are just the beverages!. There are bagels and croissants for breakfast; sandwiches, salads and soups for lunch and dinner; and of course, pastries and pies anytime.

Aromas Coffeehouse Bakeshop & Cafe, located in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, is renowned for its warm ambiance, friendly staff, and a wide selection of coffees, teas, and freshly baked goods. We loved this popular Merchants Square fast-casual breakfast spot so much, we went back the next morning!. The massive breakfast sandwiches and coffee were to-die-for, and there were also yummy muffins, cookies, and other baked goodies. Aromas serves lunch and dinner too, with entrees such as sandwiches, salads, mac and cheese, and even fondue.

I know the continental breakfast at our hotel is not going to do for my husband, who thinks every day must start with a strong cup of coffee and decent serving of protein. I was thinking of stopping in to Aromas most mornings to supplement breakfast, but not if it's going to take a long time.

If you want a low-key first date, get drinks at Aromas on a Saturday or Sunday morning. They have regular coffees and teas, coffee smoothies, and seasonal drinks, like hot apple cider. Since it’s usually pretty busy, try sitting outside, or take a stroll around Colonial Williamsburg.

If you'd rather have a picnic or are only looking for snacks, stop in at the DuBois Grocer, or McKenzie Apothecary. Even the Visitor Center Cafe has sandwiches and hot food, so you and your pet will have plenty of options.

Bake Shop, Culture Cafe and Aromas, who do not serve pancakes on their regular menus, proved to be popular choices in a write-in option for best overall breakfast.
