Reviews Summary

L'Ardente offers a glamorous Italian dining experience with many standout dishes, particularly the famous 40-layer lasagna and creative pasta. While the ambiance is upscale and the service generally attentive, some find the noise level high and the prices steep. Desserts can be hit or miss, but the overall culinary journey is memorable.

"Wow, I was recommended this restaurant and it certainly did not disappoint! From the service to the wait time to the food, everything was perfect. I knew it was a more expensive option, but my group of 3 ordered 2 appetizers and 4 entrees and when we split the bill it was under $60 a person, which wasn't bad considering how good the food was! Best Caesar salad I've ever had, and the 40-layer lasagna was also amazing. I loved that the Focaccia bread was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Highly recommend!"

"The people and food were all amazing. This was the second time for myself and my sister dining at this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Our server was so kind and patient. The food came out so quickly with it tasting just as delicious as I remember the last time I visited. Our family favorite was the linguine fruitti. I will definitely be coming back again."

Renee Hong

"Its not often that spots that are splayed all across social media are able to live up to the quality and expectations that come with that notoriety but I was really blown away by the food here. Got to enjoy their restaurant week menu and everything was really meticulously made and beautifully presented.

The 40 layer lasagna was absolutely delicious and the Caesar somehow felt unique but still delicious. I think the desserts were interesting but not quite at the same caliber as the rest of the food. It was a beautiful and very enjoyable meal overall and I would be excited to return."

Best Italian Restaurants in Washington DC to Try Right Now

Chef David Deshaies and restaurateur Eric Eden of Unconventional Diner recently unveiled their latest project, L’Ardente, at the new Capitol Crossing development. With this grand opening also comes a grand and gilded-styled dining room, plus an extremely Instagrammable dish—lasagna that’s impossibly stacked lasagna 40 layers high and might require two people to take down. Other early favorites at this wood-fired Italian joint include the bucatini alla carbonara and the Ocotrani pizza with pomodoro, smoked octopus, caciocavallo, plus cheese and basil.

Chef-restaurateur David Deshaies is a newly minted member of the Maîtres Cuisiniers de France, but don’t let his Gallic roots get in the way of enjoying some of the city’s best pasta. At his “glam Italian” restaurant, the 40-layer lasagna, filled with short rib sugo and truffle-scented mornay sauce, gets the most word-of-mouth. But don’t miss the oversized veal parmigiana, blanketed in bubbly cheese, which will eclipse any version of the dish you’ve had before.

Perhaps you’ve seen the Instagram-famous 40-layer lasagna laced with truffled cheese. It’s worth the hype, sure, but there’s so much more to Unconventional Diner chef David Deshaies’s five-month-old Italian dining room than a pretty pasta. Spend lots of time in the wide-ranging menu’s antipasti section, where you’ll find leaves of grilled cabbage dotted with sweet-tart currants and trout roe; silken eggplant with dates and plenty of mint; and a first-rate Caesar salad.
