What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Fiola Mare is celebrated for its exquisite Italian seafood, impeccable service, and stunning waterfront views, creating a sophisticated dining experience perfect for special occasions. While many praise the quality of ingredients and flavorful dishes, some diners note that certain dishes can be overly salty, and prices are on the higher end.
"It is one of the best restaurants at the location. We had dinner at the restaurant and we loved the total experience. The eggplant was yummy. The shrimp was good, but I think it was overpriced as we only got one piece of it. At least, they should provide 2 pieces for the price. Other than that, everything was amazing. The service was good, and we were seated outside, so we enjoyed the waterfront view. I definitely recommend the restaurant and would also suggest making reservations beforehand."

"Beautiful Riverfront Dining with Great Seafood – But Everything Was Way Too Salty
Tonight was our last evening in Washington D.C., and after a full day walking through the zoo, I decided to treat myself with dinner at this well-known Italian restaurant by the river. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful—at my request, they even arranged a better table for us, tucked away in a quiet and cozy corner with a beautiful view.
I started with octopus as an appetizer, followed by a cheesy pasta dish paired with shrimp cocktail. The quality of the seafood was honestly fantastic—the shrimp were fresh, sweet, and had that perfect charcoal-grilled flavor that showed the chef really put care into it. I also ordered wagyu beef with beans, and while I wasn’t expecting much from a stewed preparation, it turned out to be surprisingly fitting and comforting.
That said, the biggest issue of the night was the saltiness of the food. The octopus appetizer was extremely salty and tough to chew—not my favorite texture. The pasta was also overwhelmingly salty. I found myself wishing the chef would ease up on the seasoning so that we could really enjoy the natural flavors. I’d much rather have the option to add salt on the side, if needed.
To end the meal, I had a non-alcoholic drink, which was okay but nothing particularly memorable.
Lastly, when we were ready to pay, we had to wait quite a while for the staff to return, even though the restaurant wasn’t very busy at the time. That moment left us feeling a bit rushed and overlooked.
Overall, it was a lovely setting and I appreciated the thoughtful service and high-quality ingredients—but I do hope they adjust the seasoning in the future, because I had to drink water all night long afterward!"

The Best Brunch Spots in Washington, D.C., From Classic Diners to a Viet-Cajun Cafe
The Potomac River and the Kennedy Center couldn't look any more picturesque than they do from this dining room on the Georgetown waterfront, and Fiola Mare is a godsend in this area that's congested with middling restaurants and bars that attract a hard-partying crowd. Inside, James Beard Award-winner Fabio Trabocchi's high-end Italian restaurant is vaguely nautical with sailboat photographs, preppy blue seats, big windows, cushy chairs, and clubby dark wood. The $85 signature sparkling brunch includes seafood dishes like lobster rolls, spaghetti with clams, or a tuna "caesar" with squid ink pane fritto; the meal includes bottomless prosecco, apple streusel danishes, an appetizer, brunch entree, and dessert (like ricotta doughnuts with raspberry budino and hibiscus sugar.)

A three-course brunch perfect for families This top-rated Georgetown seafood spot will be hosting a three-course menu that includes your choice of an appetizer, entree, and dessert, along with a warm pastries and bread basket. If you have picky eaters in your family Fiola Mare may be a great option considering they have a separate children’s menu for $45 per person with items like a burrata salad with prosciutto and grilled beef tenderloin. For the adults, indulge in a duck egg ravioli alla carbonara or a lobster omelette with asparagus tips and wild mushrooms.

Savor views of the Potomac while dining on special dishes at chef Fabio Trabocchi’s seafood-heavy waterfront gem. On the menu: You’ll find the requisite turkey at this Georgetown stunner (served with chestnut and sausage stuffing), but the main draw will be the shellfish and fresh catches for which the high-class spot is known. The four-course menu includes highlights such as lobster ravioli, Spanish branzino with melted leeks, and seared scallops with baby turnips and roasted brussels sprouts.

Fiola Mare is the type of place where people who own boats pull up for a quick dinner after a lap on the water. Best Seafood Restaurants in Washington, DC
Italian-leaning seafood is executive chef Anton Bolling's dictum. A plump Capital oyster floats in a zabaglione of prosecco; while liquid cacio e pepe with escarole, sheep's milk cheese and toasted peppercorns is an unexpected thrill. The view from here is sweeping, with prices to match.

Capital Nourishment - Dining Around D.C
Moving to less formal waters, Trabocchi’s Fiola Mare (Italian seafood) sits right on the Potomac in Georgetown and wheels the catch of the day by every table for the discriminating to choose, while Del Mar (above) is located directly south of the The Mall at the District Wharf) is an eyeball-popping ode to jamon, tapas, sobrassada, and Spanish seafood. (Historical footnote: this completely gentrified, now-bustling multi-use riverfront was where we learned to gorge on Eastern Shore seafood back in the early 1970s, at the long-defunct Hogate’s.)
