Reviews Summary

Filomena Ristorante is celebrated for its authentic, homemade Italian dishes and incredibly generous portions, making it a beloved spot for comfort food. Diners rave about the unique, festive atmosphere, especially during the holidays, and the impressive dessert selection. While many praise the food and friendly service, some reviews note occasional service lapses and crowded conditions, with one diner mentioning missing items from leftovers.

"I had such a great time at Filomena Restaurant in DC. From the moment I walked in, the place had this warm, welcoming vibe that made me feel right at home. The service was friendly and attentive, but what really blew me away was the food, especially the lasagna. Honestly, it was the best lasagna I’ve ever had in my life. So rich, satisfying, and perfectly made, like something straight out of an Italian grandmother’s kitchen. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I can’t wait to tell friends about this little gem."

"Had a delicious easter lunch here
Food was fantastic, authentic in taste.
So were the desserts, the large selection of cakes by the entrance is definitely a sight to see.
Service was good
Noise level was pretty high inside the restaurant
Due to Easter , the lighting inside was all pinkish and was making everything hard to see, even made me feel a bit dizzy, highly recommend have the regular lightings.
Value was ok, definitely on the pricey side, and portions are huge, meant for sharing.
There is a parking garage conveniently located on the same street on the other side."

Starr Davis

"Stopped by for a late lunch and it was quiet, which was nice. We were greeted right away with a warm welcome. The restaurant has a really unique vibe. We spotted some amazing-looking desserts on display as soon as we walked in. The staff was great, friendly and attentive. Our order wasn’t quite right at first, but the team offered to fix it right away, and honestly, the food was so tasty we didn’t mind. The portions are huge, so we just shared everything family-style. Don’t miss the lobster cardinale, it's to die for!"

The 15 Best Italian Restaurants In DC - Washington DC

Filomena Ristorante has been serving DC pasta for 40 years, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a spot that does a better job. Which is probably why the Georgetown basement eatery is packed day and night, as folks turn everything from a simple weeknight dinner to a milestone birthday into an experience as big as Filomena’s chicken parmesan. The waiters are fresh to death in their tuxedos, while you try—and fail—to avoid dripping red sauce onto the white knit placemat under your ravioli.

The Georgetown stalwart has been around for over 30 years, and in that time countless stars—and multiple U.S. presidents—have gorged on the gigantic servings of Italian classics. Yep, it’s a bit of a tourist trap, but yep, it’s worth the visit anyway. For comforting food that’ll transport you straight back to your childhood (providing you grew up on the Med, of course), an unpretentious, homely vibe, and some of the best fried calamari around, Filomena Ristorante is hard to beat. The décor might take a bit of getting used to (think over-the-top extravagance and you’re halfway there) but once you do, expect to be booking your next visit before you even get through your first round of Antipasti.

So I’m shocked that still standing is the location of one of my formative, fresh pasta experiences, Filomena. As though they were plucked from a photograph and dropped into present-day Georgetown, you’ll still see the old Nonnas with egg yolk, making pasta in the front window, folding incredible potato gnocchi, beautiful ribbons of farfalle, and perfect elbows of macaroni.
