Reviews Summary

Terry Black's Barbecue in Waco is celebrated for its classic Texas BBQ, particularly its tender and flavorful brisket and standout sides like the creamed corn. The atmosphere is lively, with friendly staff and visible pit masters adding to the experience. While some find the prices on the higher side, the quality of the meat and generous portions generally justify the cost. Minor complaints include occasional saltiness in some brisket slices and inconsistent seasoning in certain sides, but the overall consensus is a highly recommended BBQ destination.

"Terry Black’s BBQ in Waco might just be my favorite restaurant in town—and definitely my go-to for BBQ. The food was fantastic. Brisket was flavorful and juicy, and while I suspect it may vary slightly depending on what time and day you go, it was still more consistent than other Terry Black’s locations I’ve tried.

The Waco location itself is spacious, with plenty of seating and a layout that’s easy to navigate. Even on a busy Saturday lunchtime, there was enough room for everyone without feeling crammed. Parking wasn’t too bad either—you might have to circle the block once or twice, but that’s expected when you’re hitting one of the most popular spots in town.

Service was excellent. The staff was friendly, smiling, and generous with the portions. I appreciated that they walked around making sure people were taken care of, and even delivered food to tables if something took a little longer—nice touch. I left a tip at the end because they genuinely earned it.

A couple of small negatives: some tables were a bit dirty, and a few customers were trying to save seats by placing drinks ahead of time, which caused a little tension. But those were minor things that didn’t take away from the overall experience.

This is classic Texas BBQ done right—solid operation from top to bottom. Highly recommend."

"Great experience with my family at Terry Black’s BBQ! We ordered the 6 person family pack for our family of 7 and had leftovers to bring home! Perfect amount of food with 6lbs of meat and 5 sides.

The pit masters at the smokers in front of the shop were so friendly and even showed my family the process of how they smoke the brisket and sausage live. We were able to watch them smoking the meat and they explained the techniques."

"Good smoked meats, ribs, and brisket are very tender and juicy. Notable issue: Some slices of the brisket were extremely salty. Had to remove the seasoning to eat. Most sides were well-prepared, the coleslaw and Mexican rice were tasty, but I wasn't thrilled with the macaroni and cheese. In my opinion, the cream corn was okay, but it was too sweet, and it tasted like a dessert. Pretty expensive, as most barbecue places are. It has a rustic vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating—a friendly establishment, just not worth all the hype."

Top 18 Gluten-Free American Spots to Discover in Waco

Experience a warm vibe with a unique menu, offering plenty of choices for everyone, making it a perfect spot for family and friends. If you are looking for great BBQ in casual setting do not miss Terry Black's. I was not expecting its almost fast food style service where you select your sides (single, pint or larger servings), then meat by the pound (sold in 1/3, 1/2, 3/4, or pound servings. We had the brisket, plain sausage and pork ribs. All outstanding. Melt in your mouth brisket. The potato salad and coleslaw slaw are both vegan and gluten free for anyone avoiding those. Great green beans too. I missed that they dont offer collard greens. Corn bread was great too. Highly recommend for a relaxed casual lunch or dinner. The guy by the smoker even offered to take out picture by the sign and next to the smokers and to give us a quick tour of the smokers.

Adjacent to Opals Oysters is the newest location of Terry Black’s Barbecue, which has quickly been expanding all over the state of Texas. Terry Black’s started in Austin by twin brothers of the famous Black Family Barbecue name (there’s some drama there between them and the original Black’s BBQ - I won’t go into it right now.) But here’s what I know for sure: this team knows good barbecue!. The Waco build-out is very impressive, with a line of smokers that customers get to walk past on their way into the restaurant.
