Margie and Ray’s Crabhouse (established in 1964 as a small country store and tackle shop) serves them a la carte, on a Caesar salad, and in a fried seafood platter, while Dockside Seafood & Fishing Center offers a fried oyster sandwich (even easier!). Plus, at Dockside, you can choose among several beers on draft from Norfolk-based O’Connor Brewing Co. to pair with your meal.

In season a platter of freshly steamed blue crabs are always a great bet or bring some friends and an appetite for the Hurricane Margie, an extensive offering of fried seafood, crab cakes hush puppies and cole slaw big enough to feed a navy.

Plenty of places have this delicious seafood sandwich, but you really can’t go wrong at this down-home seafood spot with a chill, rustic bar. With plenty of Old Bay seasoning and no fillers, this sandwich will hit the spot. Over the past several years, Margie and Ray’s has become known as one of the top seafood establishments in the southern end of Virginia Beach.

One of my personal favorites in the area for steamed blue crab is Margie and Ray’s Crabhouse and Restaurant. It’s rustic and simple, and there’s always a local catch of the day offered at a great price. Unlike the more upscale destinations in Norfolk, I find this location to offer more downhome, local options with bigger portions.

Since 1964, Margie and Ray’s has been serving up some of the best fresh seafood in town, including their she-crab soup. Fresh seafood doesn’t have to expensive and Margie and Ray prove just that. With lunch specials starting at $7.99 for classic meat and two sides.

Waterman’s Beachwood Grill: Also family owned, Waterman’s is located right off the boardwalk and offers sustainable seafood dishes that are served and prepared to impress. The fanciest of the restaurants, this establishment is easily the best spot for a night out.

The Grilled Atlantic Seafood Platter at Margie & Ray’s comes with many delicious options, including their crab cake. Delightfully Old School, it is full of lump crab and a nice balance of seasoning. The platter comes with two sides, as well as hushpuppies.

This old crab shack near Sandbridge makes she-crab soup worth traveling for and has been doing so since 1964. With wood paneling, stuffed animal trophies on the wall, and simple tables and booths, it isn't fancy. But it is friendly and fun.
