What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Barista del Barrio is widely praised for its exceptional breakfast burritos and creative coffee drinks, served by a friendly and efficient staff. While the food and beverages consistently earn high marks, diners should be prepared for potential lines and parking challenges during peak times.
"We came for breakfast and coffee. The building is a house converted into bodega and burrito spot. You build your own burrito or bowl with the basics; egg, potato, beans. The burritos were grilled and came in little sets of two. The machaca and chorizo were both tasty. Overall it was a cool grab and go spot, just make sure you’re ready to fight for parking."

"Wow. Wow. Wow. Amazing service. Staff was so nice and considerate. Menu was phenomenal - very hard to choose what to order. And the food and drinks were so delicious. Ended up with the iced horspresso latte, machaca grilled burrito and green tamale & it did not disappoint. Salsa was fuego too. Was relatively fast despite there being a line. Came back a year later and got a dozen tamales to take home because they don’t make them like this where I’m from!"

As with many great food stories, this one began with beloved family recipes, a dream and a coffee cart, thus the birth of Barista Del Barrio. Started by owner Flavia Briones and her two kids, Sergio and Ariana, the establishment now has a walk-up window with outdoor patio seating in the historic Barrio Hollywood neighborhood — and Briones has earned national recognition as a 2024 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef Southwest. Burritos are filled with potato, cheese, beans and the fluffiest scrambled eggs.

It’s not unusual to find a long line of customers on weekends at bustling west-side coffee stop Barista del Barrio, thanks in part to specialty drinks, such as its Barrio Hochesso, a sweet beverage that blends horchata and espresso, and its cold brew with half and half, and lechera. When Flavia Briones started the business four years ago with her son Sergio Torres and daughter Ariana Torres, she was looking to offer two staples: coffee and burritos. “I felt like this combination was missing,” Briones said.

It’s crazy to say that one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had was at a small coffee shop in Tucson. It started as a coffee cart before moving into an actual building. This spot has an outdoor window where you order, lots of outdoor seating, and pretty much always a line.
