Excellent Pizza with shades of NY: Jennifer DeBow, Mondo Italiano partner, knew exactly what she wanted to do when she conceived of the restaurant — she longed to capture the flavor of the East Coast Italian American food that she had enjoyed during her childhood in Manhattan. ""I put together the menu based on the dishes I used to eat in New York City," she said. "Each item has been taken from a specific restaurant." If you just want a salad and slice of pizza, there isn't a better place than the Taos Pizza Out Back. The salads are piled high with alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes and cucumbers, all doused with a garlicky homemade dressing. Among the excellent pizzas, try specialty creations like the Greek pizza with fresh spinach, kalamata olives, fresh basil and tomatoes; or the delicious Taos pie, which features green chile, mushrooms and, yes, beans.

Taos Pizza Outback has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. With crayons and paper to draw with while you wait for MASSIVE pizzas, pastas, wine and beer for Mom and Dad, a fireplace inside and a patio outside–this place is home to a lot of special memories for me and maybe for you, too. Their dough is non-dairy and gluten-free crust is also available upon request, as well as any topping under the sun.

With a very casual, laidback atmosphere, the restaurant is located in back of another business establishment which is located on one of the main streets of the town. Featuring gourmet and made to order pizzas of all kinds. While it has a small dining area inside the restaurant, most patrons choose to dine outside in the graffiti-decorated courtyard at one of the numerous picnic tables scattered there.

Taos Pizza Outback, 712 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, +1 575 758-3112. M-F 11AM-9PM, Sa-Su 11AM-10PM. Locals are divided about this pizzeria, some proclaiming it the best pizza in town, others sniffing that it doesn't serve "New York style" pizzas.

As soon as we pulled in, we went to Taos Pizza Out Back and got cold beer, salads, and a huge mushroom pepperoni pizza. We sat on their charming AF patio and relished in the fact that we were out in the world, eating food together.

This was by far the worst dinning experience thus far during our trip to Taos. 3 hour wait and bad tasting food. Heard about Taos Outback Pizza, from a skier on the lifts, but definitely not worth the time or money.

Pizza out back was great last night BUT they prioritize to go orders and waited 1.5 hours before getting our food. They had a good beer selection so we just waited.
