What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Martyrs Steakhouse offers a charming dining experience in a historic adobe home, praised for its steaks and unique New Mexican-inspired dishes. While many enjoy the atmosphere and specific menu items like the Pinon crusted trout, some diners have noted issues with service speed and perceived nickel-and-diming on charges for extras. The quality of steaks has also received mixed feedback, with some finding them underwhelming for the price.
"Awesome food. We ate off the appetizer menu, tapas and had dessert. We sat at the bar and the bartender was fantastic. The bill was very reasonable for all we got. Very busy restaurant worth the wait."

"Dropped in with no reservation on a Wednesday evening and was immediately seated at a window table. Was pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu and reasonable prices (for Taos)! The lamb tacos were absolutely delicious along with a tasty warm spinach salad. They even had my favorite Spanish wine by the glass. I'll be back soon!"

"Pretty darn good. I’d say most of the negative reviews are quite exaggerated or overcritical, probably picky folks with the wrong expectations.
We called for a reservation two days before, and although the person on the phone was a little gruff and distracted, it was handled. We showed up 15 minutes before, and our reservation was honored with no issues and we were seated immediately. Our server was excellent - she was friendly, upbeat, and present the whole time, so no issues with any of those concerns.
The food was great, we both had a filet, it was cooked pretty much on par - a few points off for my wife’s steak being a little more rare than asked - but not bad, otherwise no other issues. Sides were good, drinks were excellent, dessert was great.
The place was pretty much at capacity but didn’t feel terribly cramped. Seating was still available outside but I think most folks were nervous about the dark clouds in the sky.
For a steakhouse, prices were not bad. $39 for the 8oz filet, $3 for sauces and sides, reasonable drinks.
All and all a good experience and would recommend. No, not the most amazing restaurant in the world - but for a steakhouse in a small town? Meets the mark completely."

If you can’t get in at Lambert’s or the Love Apple, Aceq or Martyrs can be decent backup options that don’t always require a reservation - especially if you are willing to sit at the bar. If you like sushi, Sushi à la Hattori is great also don’t need a reservation just get there early. Taos ski valley has The Bavarian which used to be quite good, but I haven’t been in several years.

For an elegant meal with friends and family, or that special occasion, Martyrs Steakhouse is hard to beat—and it’s not just about the meat, even thought the rib eye and the local lamb chops are delicious.
