What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mel's Hot Dogs is celebrated for its authentic Chicago-style dogs and classic diner atmosphere, making it a beloved Tampa institution near Busch Gardens. While many praise the delicious food and friendly service, some reviewers note issues with portion sizes for the price and occasional service delays.
"The Chicago hot dog here is amazing as the stuff in Chicago. The Italian beef is more of a french dip but it isn't bad.
If you have to choose between donuts and ice cream definitely go for the donuts. They're light and delicious and make you want more.
Affordable meal with great flavors and the staff are energetic and friendly. Definitely worth the hype."
Louie Huang
"As a fellow "hippie with a case of the munchies" who loves hot dogs and is also named "Mel", I believe it's fate we stumbled upon this place!
Service was incredible, and all the staff greeted so many regulars on a first-name basis. Not only does it look like a classic diner/hot dog parlor, it genuinely has that feel.
The food- Absolutely delicious. Cannot wait to visit again next year to try the beef sandwich!"
Melissa Bailey
"Classic Chicago Dog house. Service has some issues. I paid for the quarter pound dog, got the regular size. Practically nobody was there and the wait was easily 15 minutes for 2 dogs. Went during happy hour. Wife got free ice cream, but they made me pay for mine.
So service is shit, but the dogs are genuine. If you're hankering for a polish sausage though? Go to portillos instead."
