What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Teresita is celebrated for its authentic and generous portions of Cuban and Spanish cuisine, often described as tasting like home-cooked meals. Diners love the value for money and the lively atmosphere, especially the unique counter seating. However, some reviews mention that the quality has slightly declined from past experiences, and service can occasionally be inconsistent.
"5 different ways to eat! It can be a little confusing at first, but there are different parts of the restaurant that serve you in a different setting. Read the sign by the entrance. The service was wonderful, very polite and great recommendations. The food to price ratio is great with big servings!"

"La Teresita, with over 11,000 reviews was one I needed to check out. The Cuban food was good but not the best I’ve had. The sangria was tasty and the pricing was pretty decent but with so many reviews, I was expecting to be wowed. I got a Cuban sandwich which really can’t be screwed up. Good bread. Overall, it was a good meal. There was live music and he was talented."
Jake Hewitt
"Stopped by La Teresita, a well-known Tampa staple I hadn’t visited in over 20 years. It was once the go-to spot for hearty, family-style, home-cooked meals — and while the style and welcoming vibe haven’t changed, I felt the quality of some dishes has slipped a bit.
I ordered the fish filet and fried shrimp, both of which tasted a little processed, like something straight from the freezer. That said, considering the generous portions and very reasonable prices, it’s hard to be too disappointed.
The real highlight of my visit was the mango and guava fruit drinks — absolutely amazing! So refreshing and full of flavor, they alone are worth a quick stop when you’re in the area.
I still appreciate La Teresita for providing affordable, filling meals in a casual, homey setting where families can gather and enjoy a taste of classic flavors."

The 17 Best Restaurants In Tampa - Tampa
This West Tampa spot started as a grocery store in the ‘70s and now includes a small bakery, a busy dining room, and a cafeteria. Grab a spot at one of the three U-shaped counters in the cafeteria next to the regulars who've been coming here for 40 years and order some tender puerco asado or palomilla steak that comes served on top of a paper map of Florida. Entrees are huge and come with two sides plus refillable bread, and whatever you can’t finish makes for a luxe beach picnic the next day.
17 Can’t-Miss Restaurants in Tampa Bay
Owned and operated by the Capdevila Family since 1972, La Teresita is an inarguably iconic stalwart for Cuban and Spanish cuisine. Guests are greeted by a no-frills diner interior where simple comfort classics shine. Sought after seats line the winding counter, where seasoned staff members hand out expertly concocted Cafe con Leches and Pan con Mantequilla (lightly toasted Cuban bread slathered in butter).
The Beginner's Guide to Cuban Tampa
Next to some of its local peers, West Tampa's most popular Cuban restaurant feels something like a brash young upstart, and that's because it is—founded by Castro-fleeing refugees as a market, back in the 1970's, what you find here today is a multi-venue, multi-sensory experience, all happening at a relatively fast, shades-of-South Florida pace, which can be something of a surprise after your wanderings through Tampa's relatively mellow scene. Don't be put off—the cafeteria, with its horseshoe shaped counters and very late hours, is an essential part of the local experience, offering perhaps not the finest food, but certainly some of the best value for money, and some of the best all-day (and on weekends, all-night) people watching in town.
Tampa's Top Five Greasy Spoon Diners
Located on the west side of the building housing the much larger La Teresita restaurant and banquet facility, this little diner features the Bayshore Blvd. of lunch counters; long and winding and patronized by people who might be direct descendants of actual pirates. It would rank higher on this list because of the availability of authentic Cuban cuisine, but it’s only open 24 hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and around-the-clock access is a big part of any greasy spoon’s appeal.
Who Has the Best Cuban Sandwich in Tampa? Find Out Here!
Owned by the Capedevila family for many generations and serving a menu of Cuban and Spanish standards in an intimate surrounding, La Teresita is possibly the best overall Cuban restaurant in Tampa Bay.
