What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Ore House is a beloved Steamboat Springs institution, lauded for its exceptional prime rib and nostalgic salad bar. Diners appreciate the warm, rustic Western ambiance and friendly service, making it a go-to for both locals and visitors. However, some guests have noted that noise levels can become overwhelming during peak times, and a few have experienced issues with the toughness or portion size of certain dishes, particularly the lobster add-on.
"While skiing in Steamboat, this restaurant came highly recommended by everyone I met. When I go to a steakhouse my go to choice is a ribeye but everyone recommended getting the prime rib here and I have to say, I echo that sentiment. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and the sides were excellent. We also had the baked brie and ribs for appetizers and they were very delicious as well. The service was also incredible as the entire waitstaff was very attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant if you need a dining option in Steamboat!"

"Busy place during the early dining hours. The early bird is a good deal, but the seasonal special is even better. Must visit if in the area and better call for a reservation."

"It was my fiancé's birthday and wanted to treat him to a very special dinner. We travelled to Steamboat from California to snowboard and celebrate.
This place was PERFECT for a nice dinner.
FOOD - Their food was absolutely delicious! Their prime rib was served at perfect temp and their crab cakes were to die for! And they give you a bread basket when you sit down and wow, the cinnamon ones were amazing!
SERVICE - Professional, classy, friendly, and attentive. I really couldn't ask for more. I even snuck to talk to our waitress because I wanted to pay for the table without them knowing, and she knew exactly what to do. She was amazing.
AMBIANCE - fancy, but not to the point where we felt uncomfortable. You don't have to be super dressed up, but no raggedy clothes. Totally appropriate.
I will definitely be returning when we come back to Steamboat!"

Where to eat in Steamboat Springs?
Having just returned last night from 9 days at Steamboat, I'd second La Montana (a little pricey for what you get but very good) and would add Riggio's (for Italian), the Ore House (for steaks, seafood), and The Cabin (for really nice, more upscale dining). Also try the Off the Beaten Path for something a little different - it's a bookstore with a cafe and coffee/wine bar. Limited menu but very good.

Steamboat Springs Restaurants | Nightlife, Bars
Ore House at the Pine Grove (sounds like “whore house” to me!) is located at the base of the hill on the periphery of town (1465 Pine Grove Road, Steamboat Springs). They really ham up the old western steak house with great décor such as wagon wheels, horse shoes, chaps and bison heads!. The Ore House has a really relaxed environment and friendly service, and the steaks, cocktails and wine seem really reasonably priced.
Belly Up - A users' guide to local watering holes
The Ore House at the Pine Grove (Pine Grove Road at U.S. 40) is an 1890 dairy farm transformed into a rustic setting for surf and turf in 1971, when the first menu was written on a champagne bottle and J.J. Cale played in the intimate upstairs dining room. Cugino’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant (41 Eighth) transformed the former City Hall into a large sunny deck for lunchtime hikers, bikers and hoagie lovers.

It reminded me of the old Beefsteak Charlie that was very popular in the Northeast in the 70s. The Ore House specialized in beef.
