Having just returned last night from 9 days at Steamboat, I'd second La Montana (a little pricey for what you get but very good) and would add Riggio's (for Italian), the Ore House (for steaks, seafood), and The Cabin (for really nice, more upscale dining). Also try the Off the Beaten Path for something a little different - it's a bookstore with a cafe and coffee/wine bar. Limited menu but very good.

Ore House at the Pine Grove (sounds like “whore house” to me!) is located at the base of the hill on the periphery of town (1465 Pine Grove Road, Steamboat Springs). They really ham up the old western steak house with great décor such as wagon wheels, horse shoes, chaps and bison heads!. The Ore House has a really relaxed environment and friendly service, and the steaks, cocktails and wine seem really reasonably priced.

The Ore House at the Pine Grove (Pine Grove Road at U.S. 40) is an 1890 dairy farm transformed into a rustic setting for surf and turf in 1971, when the first menu was written on a champagne bottle and J.J. Cale played in the intimate upstairs dining room. Cugino’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant (41 Eighth) transformed the former City Hall into a large sunny deck for lunchtime hikers, bikers and hoagie lovers.

This 125+-year-old barn is home to Steamboat’s longest-running dinner tradition. If you are hankering to try some world-class beef – then make a reservation at the Ore House!. The barn started as a homestead in 1889, and some of the memorabilia in the restaurant came from the original operating cattle ranch.

Now that I’ve grown up (and discovered I had celiac a few years back), I’m so grateful they have an entire gluten-free menu, which includes almost everything off the regular menu. Some favorites: Chipotle-Raspberry Salmon, Steak Tips, and all the steaks (obviously).

It reminded me of the old Beefsteak Charlie that was very popular in the Northeast in the 70s. The Ore House specialized in beef.
