Restaurants don't last for decades through the seasonality of a ski town without a strong following, and Mazzola's has maintained that even as it's moved, changed owners, managers, staff and menu items. This basement-level Italian joint has some of the best pizza in town, excellent specials and a friendly bar. Come for dinner with the family then send them back to the hotel while you grab another drink, throwing back meatball sliders once your buzz kicks in.

Something about being handed a ball of real dough to play with before dinner, and then have it cooked and presented with their pizza is a treat my kids never tired of. This unique entertainment for the kiddos always seems to calm the store, something us parents can appreciate!. Pasta and pizza are the go-to when you have picky kids, so the menu in partnership with the chance to “play with their food” makes for a smooth-sailing family meal.

If you’re looking for casual Italian in Steamboat Springs, look no further. Start out with Sicilian mussels, fried calamari, cheesy bread, or mozzarella sticks. Try a soup or salad, like minestrone, Mazzola’s salad, Caesar, or burrata caprese – Stracciatella-filled mozzarella, heirloom tomato, and fresh basil accompanied by garlic toast.

We highly suggest visiting Mazzola’s for a delicious Italian dinner to replace our recommendation for Rex’s (it has since closed). Created by the same owner of Laundry, Rex’s, Salt & Lime, and more, Mazzola’s won’t disappoint. Mazzola’s offers hearty dishes created by top-of-the-line chefs.

Mazzola’s is Steamboat’s only traditional Italian style diner. It opened in 1970 and has long been a Steamboat tradition. Offering a from-scratch kitchen, made from only the highest quality all-natural ingredients, the menu consists of both traditional Italian and American-Italian dishes.

A couple of my other favorites in Steamboat are Freshies for huevos rancheros, The Paramount for chilaquiles, Yampa Sandwich Company for a grab-n-go sandwich to enjoy during a hiking adventure, Drunken Onion for a quick latte, Tuffle Pig for apres, and Mazzola’s for Italian comfort food.

Mazzola’s – This Italian restaurant in downtown Steamboat was recommended to someone in our group by a local while they were on the ski lift. It’s a cozy little restaurant with great pizza and pasta and short wait times. We didn’t wait long at all for a group of 15.

Since moving to Steamboat, I have picked Mazzola’s for any of my special celebration and birthday dinners. The food never disappoints!. Don’t pass up the budino for dessert.

Honestly I love both these restaurants so much I couldn’t pick between the two. They have GF pasta, bread, and pizza available. And it is DELICIOUS.

One of the best Italian restaurants downtown, Mazzola's, is known for its tiramisu. Make sure you try it after your great Italian dinner!
