Reviews Summary

Mazzaro's Italian Market is a highly-regarded destination, lauded for its authentic Italian market atmosphere, exceptional sandwiches, and delightful bakery. While it can get incredibly busy, especially on weekends, the lively energy and vast selection of imported goods, wines, and prepared foods make it a worthwhile experience for many. Some items, like specific sausages, have received negative feedback, but the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many visitors becoming repeat customers.

"We came to Mazzaro’s with high expectations after doing tons of research, and somehow it still managed to blow us away! We had planned exactly what we wanted from the sandwich counter, but the amazing Dominic helping was helping us suggestioned something different — and absolutely nailed it. His energy, friendliness, and genuine passion for the food made the experience even better. (Shout out, Dominic!)

The market itself is like a playground of Italian excitement — a bakery tucked here, a fresh pasta section there, and even a hidden coffee bar right in plain sight. It truly felt like we were transported somewhere abroad.

Outside, the wine garden and fountain area were just as magical. $6 glasses of wine, lots of laughter, and a lively gentleman cracking jokes with customers and staff made it a full experience, not just a meal.

We’ll be back — next time with luggage! Well done, Mazzaro’s!"

"What an incredible experience! Amazing food and Italian products and other surprises. Great staff well-stocked nice and clean I made a gift basket for a community event and I had so much fun shopping for items. I went home with way too much but I live 90 minutes away and I'm grateful that I loaded up our family is very happy with the goodies I brought home"

Liz Casner, Your Hometown Realtor

"This place is not for the weak! 😂 For warning this place is crowded and it does feel like you are in Italy for a bit. I do not mind the crowds because it is worth it and I see why they are crowded! The food is amazing there! When going to the deli be sure to have your order ready because if you grab a ticket and they call you and you don’t know what you want they will tell you to step back, grab another ticket when ready. It is fast paste! I did love the experience though. Going throughout the market they have great ingredients and a winery where you can sample on certain days. They also have a coffee shop with the best made coffee I have ever had and amazing pastries!!! Very good place to eat, take out, or get ingredients!"

20 Tampa Bay tourist attractions that are actually worth the struggle

Mazzaro’s This Italian market is as beloved locally as it is famous beyond our borders — hell, it’s mostly regulars causing those headache-inducing lines on weekends. It’s worth the wait, though, to get inside and take your time, perusing amazing groceries, wines and pre-made dishes in the AC. Take a number, grab a sandwich and take a break, do a little more walking around, and grab a bottle of vino or three for your next summer-days adventure — this should be a tradition for every season, really, crowds or no. 2909 22nd Ave.

Normally I would not check out an Italian recommendation as Toronto has such great Italian food but Dani the snapchatting DJ said this market had the best sandwiches of all the St.Petersburg restaurants. Sure enough as I drove up I could see cars parked all over the place, and some parking lots warning that it was NOT for customers of Mazarro. An old school deli counter in an Italian grocery store, you take a number and patiently wait for your turn to order a hot or cold sandwich or the special of the day.

Opened in 1993, Mazzaro’s stocks fine European food products and gourmet goodies as far as the eye can see, in a yawning warehouselike space in St. Petersburg. While it can be easy to get stuck ogling the goods in the sprawling wine and cheese room, or at the always busy sandwich counter, the bakery shouldn’t be skipped. Stocked with Italian-style breads like ciabatta, semolina and focaccia, and sweet treats like eclairs, cannoli cakes and pignoli cookies, there are plenty of yeasty treats to love.

Spend any time in Mazzaro’s Italian Market and you may come down with a touch of Stendhal’s syndrome. Only it won’t be from overexposure to Italian art, but to kitsch.
