Reviews Summary

Brick & Mortar is praised for its exceptional, creative New American cuisine and attentive service in a cozy, rustic-chic atmosphere. Diners love the truffle fries, unique flavor profiles, and desserts. However, some find it a bit pricey and note that seating can be tight, especially if placed in an auxiliary area.

"Top shelf experience from making reservations to paying bill. Management went out of their way to accommodate our group of 12 diners. Excellent service and food had by all."

Shayne Adams

"My partner and I enjoyed the outside seating here despite it being a little hot because inside was quite loud but it made for a wonderful dinner. The menu is quite short but that's a good thing. I still went back and forth trying to choose because it all sounds good. The truffle fries were to die for and my salad was a fantastic array of fruit and veggies I've not had before all of which were great. We ended up sitting side by side so we could both look out at the street. It felt a little tight facing in towards the restaurant looking through the window."

Montana Fox

"Brick & Mortar in downtown St. Petersburg is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly blends rustic charm with modern flair. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions.

The food is nothing short of exceptional. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor, clearly made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The menu is creative yet approachable, offering a refined take on American cuisine with global influences. We had the short rib gnocchi and the seared scallops—both were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The flavors were well-balanced, and the portions were just right. Even the appetizers and desserts were unforgettable—especially the beet salad and their decadent flourless chocolate cake.

What truly elevates the experience at Brick & Mortar is the staff. The service was top-notch—friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. They made excellent wine and cocktail recommendations that paired perfectly with our meals.

It’s clear the team at Brick & Mortar takes pride in what they do, and it shows in every detail. Highly recommend this spot if you're in St. Pete—it’s a culinary experience you won’t forget!

Start with Brick & Mortar for a refined, creative dining experience, then sample social or Mediterranean-style menus.

One of the most celebrated restaurants in the area, Brick and Mortar is one for the foodies, specialising in rustic yet elegant New American fare and seasonal ingredients cooked with flair. Located in the trendy 500 block of St. Pete’s Central Avenue, the lively eatery is particularly known for its creative house-made pasta dishes. Expect melt-in-the-mouth braised short rib folded through silky fat noodles, creamy cavatelli with chicken and roasted mushrooms or the signature giant ravioli, stuffed with a perfect poached egg yolk.

Things to do in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Such is the fairly common scene at Brick & Mortar, a cozy downtown restaurant run by the charming husband and wife team of Jason Ruhe and Hope Montgomery. Dishes might best be described as eclectic new American, with emphasis on locally sourced ingredients (many of their veggies come from a farm that sells to the public at the St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market). Tip: They don’t take reservations, so show up early or hang out with a drink (they have an excellent wine list); it’s worth it.
