The menu is as you would expect full of American fare with sandwiches, burgers, pancakes, and the like all gracing the menu.

From the moment I requested a seat to paying my tab, the service was impeccable. The attention to detail they gave, like readying my preferred outdoor seating with menus and silverware, is a rare find these days. The food arrived promptly and tasted fantastic, particularly the hash browns which didn't leave any oily aftertaste.

If you’re eating downtown, you can’t miss the Phillips Avenue Diner, with its classic exterior styling and sprawling, something-for-everyone menu. The place really plays up its waffles on its menu, and so we gave the Belgian Waffle ($8.50) a try.

Diner in downtown SF would be a neat place to stop by and have something to eat. Downtown SF has a few locally-run eating places in addition to what MJ1986 has suggested. Brimarck Inn, Sioux Falls Inn, and Arena Inn on Russell are other good mom and pop hotels, they did not come to mind earlier.

Fans of the original Dive kitchen in The Gaslight Lounge, which closed at the end of May, will be happy to hear that the Nashville Chicken and Classic Chicken sandwiches are now on the menu in the new location in Park Ridge Galleria.

We then stopped for a nice local lunch at Phillips Avenue Diner. We sat outside and were served a decent, homey lunch by yet another surly server (like the bartender the night before). Downtown was actually pretty funky and lively.
