The Cookery garners praise for its refined New American cuisine, emphasizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients, particularly its highly recommended oysters. Diners often enjoy the unique ambiance and attentive service, though some reviews mention issues with slow service and dishes being too salty or overpriced. Despite some inconsistencies, many consider it a top dining experience in the area.

"We just finished our dinner at The Cookery, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Good food, excellent service and an overall great vibe! Our server was very warm and patient, while being very prompt with our food. Dishes were well put together and paired well with our drinks. We definitely recommend this place, as a great way to end a beautiful day in Seward, and further adding to your memories."

"Fantastic Dining Experience at The Cookery

Probably the best and most elegant food we’ve had so far between Anchorage and Seward. The flavors were delicate and well-balanced — no greasy, overcooked dishes here. The carrot soup was rich and delicious, and the halibut was perfectly cooked. Great atmosphere and genuinely friendly service made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend."

Nicholas Parker

"Well worth the price and wait time. About $40 per person and 30 minute wait time. Their dishes are packed with seafood. Every single menu we ordered had so much seafood that it was so flavorful and protein rich. The salmon dip is a must-try, where the salmon dip and the cucumber combination is extraordinary."

An Alaskan's Guide to 18 Must-Try Spots

I’m going to be totally honest with you: I have not personally eaten* at The Cookery. Normally that would preclude me from even including a restaurant on my list, but I have heard so many incredible rave reviews for The Cookery over the years – and they just didn’t happen to be open during my (two!) Seward trips in 2022 so I didn’t think it was fair to leave them off, especially when I feel confident saying they’re the best in town. The Cookery does Alaskan fine-casual dining at its best; the menu includes seafood and locally farmed meats, produce from the Kenai Peninsula, and foraged ingredients for a special, hyper-local flavor.

Aptly located in the heart of Seward, The Cookery is a town favorite because of their commitment to showcase the work of the fisherman, rancher, farmer, brewmaster, and winemaker all in one menu. While their menu is definitely filled with some mouthwatering delights, nothing hits the spot quite like their magnificent oysters.
