RockCreek serves a bunch of different oysters from Washington and British Columbia on the half-shell as well as shooters involving ingredients like pineapple and Fresno chile. But all the fish dishes are excellent, whether it’s blackened yellowtail and grits to a whole roasted branzino. Even if you don’t want anything that comes from a body of water at all, the menu always has a couple of fresh pasta dishes and the cauliflower farro salad with pecorino is ridiculously good.

**Assuming you’re looking to gather a crowd, RockCreek is one of my favorite spots for a birthday dinner, if you can reserve the sweet upstairs private room that seats about 12. Restaurants that are notoriously difficult to get into, like JuneBaby and Homer, also take reservations for groups bigger than about 6, so if you’re planning far enough in advance, birthdays are a great time to experience those awesome restaurants.

People often ask where to get the best seafood in Seattle, and are then surprised when I don’t say a restaurant on the waterfront. There are some okay seafood places on the waterfront, but if you want the best it’s in Fremont at Rock creek Seafood & Spirits (lucky for you, the best burger in Seattle is right next door at Uneeda Burger). Rockcreek’s interior is really unique.
