What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Oriental Mart is a beloved Filipino eatery in Pike Place Market, praised for its authentic, flavorful homestyle cooking, especially the salmon sinigang and adobo. Diners appreciate the warm, family-like atmosphere and friendly service. However, some find the counter seating cramped and have noted inconsistencies in dish preparation or occasional issues like finding foreign objects in food.
"Amazing food! This is by far, hands down the best food you can get at the Pike Place Market located downtown Seattle. The Oriental Mart offers exceptionally great service that you can’t find anywhere else. If you haven’t had a chance to eat the chicken adobo you’re definitely missing out. I highly recommend checking this place out, and taking time to dine in the open hall seating as everything is so lively and vibrant!"

"It was not good at all. Just being honest here. Everything is watery even the inside of the longanisa. Not sure why people like this place.
Location: It is located at Pike Place Market. You have to go inside of the market and it looks like an eatery. There is only bar chairs so its a little bit uncomfortable. There is a line when I went there.
Service: they were nice and apologetic about the line.
Food: Everything was not good. This is not how Filipino dish should be made.
LONGANISA: i dont know but the sausage is very watery inside, it could be good if it is not soggy. The rice is not cooked as well it has too much water. The noodles that comes with it is bland.
ADOBO: this is not how adobo should he made. It was watery and there is no adobo flavor. I felt like they boiled it in water and put soy sauce on it. It is very watery.
SINIGANG na SALMON: this might be a little better. Its sour but the salmon is the head so there is not that much meat on it.
Price rating: 10/10. Very expensive for not so good meal. around $22 per meal.
Never will come back here. I felt that people that come here never tasted what a real Filipino food supposed to taste like."

"When I'm in the mood for a quick Filipino food fix, I head over to Oriental Mart in Seattle, WA. I was shopping at Pike Place and decided to give it a visit, since I haven't eaten from here in awhile. The menu changes every day, depending on what Aunty feels like making! It is a family-owned small business, ao please be patient with them when ordering and waiting on food. Some of the items that I have seen sold here is sinigang, porkgasantis, lumpia, and many more!

Aunty and staff are always nice. You can dine in if you want, but just know it is counter seatting and very limited space. I would suggest taking it to-go if you want to avoid crowds or want a quieter spot to eat at.
This spot is hit or miss tbh on consistency, but I rated it a 4 because I've had more good meals than off one's from here."

The Downtown Lunch Guide - Seattle
Located in a quiet corner of the market, this Filipino counter serves the best lunch Downtown, let alone some of the best Filipino food in the city. Everything here is prepared by a woman who is quite kind despite some brash signage (such as, “IF U DON’T KNOW HOW TO EAT OUR SALMON SINIGANG DON’T ORDER IT”) and the food is so good that we’d gladly brave the yogurt-gulping Ellenos fanatics around the bend. Oriental Mart serves excellent tart pork adobo over rice seeped in braising liquid, lumpia wands whose crunch reminds us of a Butterfinger bar, and shiny red longanisa sausage that deserves its own long-form documentary.
Where to Eat in Seattle
From its perch on the West Coast, Seattle looks as often to Asia for inspiration as it does to anywhere else: many of the city’s best restaurants boast Filipino, Japanese, or Chinese food. But whether featuring the food of southern Italy or the American south, local chefs draw on ingredients that show off the crisp, cool merroir of Salish Sea seafood, the hauntingly deep forest flavour of mushrooms raised by the region’s famous rains, and the sweet fruits (literal and figurative) of the long summer days.
9 Spots to Explore Seattle's Burgeoning Filipino Scene
Past tables of trinkets and souvenir knickknacks awaits Filipino comfort food; pancit noodles and braised chicken or pork adobos steam and simmer at the counter, but it’s the tangy tamarind sinigang soup of salmon collar and fresh vegetables that cement the homey lunch-only eatery as quintessential market dining. And while the fare may be comforting, a collage of hand-scrawled signs nod to Oriental Mart’s cutting sense of humor—“If you are reading this…who are you blocking?
Filipino Flair
Since Leila “Ate Lei” Rosas added a kitchen to her mom’s grocery business in 1987, this homey Pike Place Market counter has won diners over with the complex, tangy flavor profile distinct to Filipino cooking. If you’ve only ever had sweet-tart chicken adobo, try the signature tamarind-infused sinigang soup, made with salmon collar and fresh vegetables sourced from the Market itself. 1506 Pike Pl, Ste 509
A Filipino Food Movement is Rising in Seattle
Of course, mainstays such as Inay’s Asian Pacific Cuisine on Beacon Hill and Pike Place Market’s hidden treasure Oriental Mart Grocery (where a truly superb sinigang—the tart, sour, tamarind-laced soup—is made with wild salmon collar) have passionate devotees. But they’re almost solely serving a Filipino audience. (On one recent visit to Oriental Mart, I was the lone non-Filipino at the counter.)
