What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Boat Bar offers a charming atmosphere and exceptional service, with standout oysters and creative seafood dishes. While some dishes may miss the mark, the overall dining experience is elevated by the friendly and attentive staff. It's a place worth visiting, especially for its vibrant summer vibe and well-executed cocktails.
"Had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. What really stood out was the staff—they were incredibly nice, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great time. It’s always a pleasure to dine at a place where you feel welcomed and valued. Highly recommend!"

"We decided to check out Boat Bar because we love all of Renee Erickson's restaurants. Overall, the place had some hits and misses with the food and drinks, but the service and staff were excellent, and the atmosphere was really charming and relaxing.
We ordered oysters (a must!) and three other dishes to share. It felt it was a good amount for a couple. The tartare was delicious, and the scallops—while they looked a little odd—tasted great with a unique mix of flavors. The cauliflower, though, was a letdown—bland and mushy, definitely something we could have skipped. Same with the dessert; it didn’t really stand out.
If you go, I’d recommend sticking to the oysters and "sea creatures"(turumtz).
The place definitely has a great summer vibe, so I'd love to come back during warmer weather. Just make sure to bring a jacket if you're visiting in the fall—it was pretty cold! Overall, I enjoyed it, and the dishes are creative and always great to try. The chef Renee Erickson never disappoints."

"Boat Bar has long been a favorite, but on my latest visit, something felt off. The house-made nori crackers with steak tartare were the clear highlight—crispy, briny, and perfectly complementing the delicate richness of the steak. That slight taste of the sea elevated the dish beautifully.
Unfortunately, the bread pudding, which used to be amazing, was a disappointment—cold, stale, and lacking the depth of flavor it once had. It’s a shame to see a once-stellar dish lose its magic.
Overall, the atmosphere and service are still solid, but I can’t shake the feeling that things are slipping. Ms. Erickson, please bring back the love that made this place great! There’s still so much to love here, but a little extra care could bring Boat Bar back to its former glory."

Restaurants in Seattle
Renee Erickson made her name serving Seattle's seafood, and takes a new spin on the same at this cool, marble-topped ode to Parisian fish and shellfish bistros. The menu offers seafood both raw and cooked, as well as meaty continental classics like steak tartare and a burger (and steaks borrowed from Bateau next door). Seafoam-green seats pop with color from the white walls in front of the long L-shape bar and tables that surround it.
20 Best Restaurants in Seattle, From Takeout to Tasting Menus
Boat Bar oozes understated chicness, with sea-foam green chairs, chevron tile floors, and crisp white countertops accented with gold fixtures. It feels like the hippest oyster bar under the sea, but like it also it went to grad school in Paris on its way to Capitol Hill. Renee Erickson opened Seattle's quintessential modern oyster bar with Walrus and the Carpenter, and here, Seattle's star chef found a way to improve even on that.
Where To Eat When Your Friends Want Oysters, But You Don’t - Seattle
We have to admit, an aerial shot of oysters at Bar Melusine above the seafoam green and white tiled floor looks pretty damn aesthetically pleasing. But it’s not worth it to order an entire ice tray full of expensive oysters only for some likes on Instagram. The non-oyster food here is excellent, which we’d expect from the sister restaurant to Walrus And The Carpenter and Bateau.
50 Best Restaurants in Seattle
Any list of Seattle’s best restaurants might include one of a half dozen of the spots from Renee Erickson and her Sea Creatures group, each with European elegance, Pacific Northwest core, and a lively coolness. But Boat Bar, the seafoam and white ode to the French coast and its fruits de mer, marries the chilled oyster bar vibes of Erickson’s breakout star Walrus and the Carpenter to the hip, beefy Bateau right next door. Fresh-shucked shellfish, seafood platters, and clam dip share the menu with artful salads, steak tartare, and a burger.
The Absolute Best Oyster Restaurants in Seattle
It’s just that she owns a lot of the best oyster restaurants in Seattle given her dedication to the shellfish. Boat Bar used to be called Bar Melusine, but they rebranded during the pandemic and positioned it more as the bar of their connecting steakhouse, Bateau (which has one of Seattle’s best burgers, by the way). You’ll find a more limited menu than what was available at Bar Melusine, but luckily oysters on the half shell are still a focus.
