This cute and sunny—not to mention tiny—café in Old Town Scottsdale gets raves for its Instagrammable blue Synesso espresso machine, floral patterned wallpaper, and funky black-and-white tile beneath the bar, above which black pendant lights help cultivate a Parisian feel. Owner Jonathan Madrigal, a native of Costa Rica, opened Berdena’s in 2017 to be a destination of “fine coffee and food.” With specialty lattes like cardamom rose and honey lavender providing nice detours from traditional flavors, Berdena’s also elevates classic breakfast and brunch food: its smashed avocado toast was voted by Phoenix New Times as the region’s best in 2017 (no small feat, as health-conscious dining is the norm here), and the signature Berdena’s Breakfast Sandwich piles hand-carved ham, a fried egg, cheddar, arugula, tomato, house-made chipotle aioli, and avocado on a brioche bun.

Berdena's is a classic coffee shop in Old Town Scottsdale with charming pastel interiors with patterned tiles and a warm and welcoming ambiance. The boutique, independently-owned café, has ample indoor seating and an outdoor patio for alfresco coffee sipping and serves a simple menu of coffee drinks from San Francisco-based Ritual Coffee Roasters and specialty espressos made on a shiny new periwinkle blue Synesso espresso machine. Light fare such as freshly baked pastries and sweet treats, lightly salted avocado toast, airy yeast-raised waffles, and Straus yogurt is offered throughout the day, and the café has complimentary wireless Internet.

Berdena’s is a relatively recent addition to Scottdale’s growing speciality coffee scene, having opened in April 2017. Part of a new wave that includes Fourtillfour and Regroup Coffee + Bicycles, plus, just across the Arizona Canal, Press Coffee Roasters, it’s just a couple of blocks away along East 5 th Avenue from the pioneering Cartel Coffee Lab. Unlike the majority of the area’s coffee shops, which focus solely on coffee, Berdena’s is known as much for its food, although in a fit of bad timing, I missed out on lunch on my first two visits!

Located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, Berdena’s is the cutest little cafe you ever did see. There’s not a patterned wall, colored table, thoughtful chair, textile counter, or really anything, actually, that wouldn’t look absolutely fabulous flirting in the background of yet another one of your aesthetically flawless foodie Insta pics. The beans here are from Ritual Coffee – a decorated outfit that’s based in the San Francisco bay area – and come to life in a magical baby blue espresso machine.

Another adorable cafe located in Scottsdale, Berdena’s offers specialty coffee drinks and delicious bites!. This location is a little smaller but offers bench seating along the large front windows and table seating to the right of the coffee bar. I love the chic, modern farmhouse feel and the peg board plant/coffee displays around the shop were adorable!.

Nestled in the historic and touristy neighborhood of Old Town Scottsdale, Berdena’s fits right in with its boutique neighbors. The cafe is modern and sleek, yet welcoming and filled with natural light. Floor-to-ceiling windows surround a sun-soaked white interior, the shop’s iconic blue three-group Synesso Hydra standing out as a stylish centerpiece.

A popular, stylish Old Town Scottsdale coffee shop would seem the least likely place to find an excellent no-nonsense breakfast sandwich. This is a neighborhood that thrives on showy fluff, after all. But the breakfast sandwich at Berdena's is a stone cold killer that works so well because every element is handled with precision and care.

Many of their mocha, latte, cappuccino, espresso, and macchiato drinks offer extra or triple shots. Specialties include a honey lavender latte and an espresso tonic. Among the food choices are avocado toast, parfait, and a breakfast sandwich with ham, egg, cheddar, tomato, arugula, and avocado with a house-made chipotle aioli.

I’ll just say it right now, Berdena’s has to be one of my favorite coffee shops in Scottsdale, AZ for trendy vibes!. Located in Old Town, Berdena’s is a small shop tucked away in a corner that you’d easily miss if it weren’t for the line that’s usually out the door!. This Scottsdale coffee shop gets a 10/10 for atmosphere.

They close at 3 pm, so they are best suited to breakfast, brunch, and lunch. It’s a small, cozy coffee shop tucked away from the main roads but definitely a hidden gem of Scottsdale. They serve small bites like avocado toast and breakfast sandwiches on savory brioche buns and lots of freshly baked pastries.

The nice thing about oldtown scottsdale is we could hit Berdenas, 4 till 4, and Cartel within a few blocks of each other.
