After bingo at Moodright’s, I walked over to Pizzeria Vittoria, a picnic table joint housed in one of the yard’s retrofitted shipping containers, where I found another bingo tournament in full swing. I sat and crushed an exquisite margherita as a judgy butterscotch shih tzu looked on.

I’m the fussiest person in the world when it comes to pizza – they’ve got to be thin crust, wood-fired, and none of those weird toppings like nachos. If you’re a deep dish fan then you probably won’t like my choices!. At this awesome Savannah pizza joint, they keep it simple, traditional and bloody delicious.

From the chef that brought you Pizzeria Vittoria in Starland Yard, comes Lucia. Chef Kyle Jacovino is known for his pizza dough, so it comes as no surprise that he's opening up a casual eatery dedicated to grinders (sub sandwiches) this summer. Not far behind is Brochu's Family Tradition.

Apparently we eat a lot of pizza, particularly woodfired pizza. Pizzeria Vittoria Napoletana is a local favorite in the Starland District. They are well known for their super-authentic Neapolitan pizza, made with fresh ingredients and cooked in a wood-fired oven.

When I’m not cooking pizza, I go eat Kyle Jacovino’s at Vittoria Pizzeria. The restaurant is in Starland Yard, which is kind of like a fun adult park. Kyle serves a Neapolitan-style and it really is the next best thing to ours at Big Bon Pizza.

Kyle brought his “OG Vittoria oven” over from his very popular pizzeria around the corner at Starland Yard. He says he picked that one for good luck. The best part is now you can enjoy Savannah’s best pizza 365 days a year indoors.

A few days later, we were at Starland Yard, splitting our now-usual weekend pizza at Vittoria and basking in the winter sun when Sophia, another current student and advisee, walked by with her dad and her brothers.

Pick a Pizza Spot - Vinnie Van Go Go's, Pizzeria Vittoria and Big Bon Pizza all have great outdoor scenes to enjoy. All three being a little different. Vinnie's at City Market, of course.
