Veronica Fish & Oyster bills itself as a throwback to the supper clubs of days gone by—and that’s the vibe you get when you walk through the restaurant’s doors, from the murals on the wall and marble-topped bar to shelves lined with books and tasteful knickknacks. Add upholstered chairs and banquettes and you feel like you’re in a vintage living room—a sublime setting for sipping cocktails. Veronica’s happy hour makes that exercise even more sublime, with $5 beer and wine specials, $6 cocktails and $7 small plates, including grilled oysters (yes, please—Veronica has a fantastic oyster bar), shrimp and scallop ceviche and smoked fish toast.

With a nod to the classic supper club of days gone by, this sweet restaurant offers up amazing, flavorful cuisine starting with chicken and crawfish gumbo, traveling through some delectable lobster and seafood, and offering drinks from a full bar. Veronica Fish and Oyster, for example, emphasizes a raw bar that lets diners sample many local types of oysters that are true favorites for natives who appreciate fine seafood. The restaurant also offers classic southern options such as hush puppies. Dinners who have company that likes other things besides seafood can also find many kinds of meatier options in the menu here.

For a taste of seafood with a southern flair, you must dine at Veronica Fish and Oyster, located in Sarasota’s Southside Village. The menu offers tasty dishes ranging from crab and avocado with wasabi ponzu and a crispy rice cracker, to hearty chicken and crawfish gumbo. The daily whole fish special is served Thai or Mediterranean style.

If your group is craving seafood, Veronica Fish & Oyster is the spot. If you’re looking for fresh seafood but with a more casual atmosphere, try Duval’s and the shrimp Po Boy. Owen’s Fish Camp has the best fish sandwiches and pecan pie, while the Screaming Goat serves up homestyle favorites like short rib tacos and cheesy tots.

The seafood tower at Veronica Fish and Oyster is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. It will cost a little more, but it’s definitely recommended that you go with the Bigger Plateau. You’ll get an even larger helping of shrimp, raw oysters, smoked fish dip, and other delicious seafood options to sample.

Veronica Fish & Oyster is an upscale oyster bar and seafood restaurant with a cozy bar area for their happy hour. They offer a number of their specialty cocktails for $12 as well as great sharable items like their mezze plate, royal red shrimp cocktail, and smoked fish dip.

This area, which was really nice and home to a low-rise shop parade of a couple of blocks, was also home to Veronica Fish & Oyster, where we had one of our dinners and the first time I was served a whole grilled fish in America. (Dinner for two was around $150)

This is the latest/greatest entry into the growing Southside dining universe. A Caragiulo restaurant (Owens, Shore…). You could drop Veronica’s into Seattle’s dining scene, and it would be just fine.
