Insider Tips

I’ve been back from vacation like two weeks now and I still haven’t finished posting about all the amazing vegan food I ate. This is Lila in Sarasota, Florida. As someone who’s the only vegan in my family I really appreciated this concept. The menu is plant-based but you can add sustainable meat as a side to any dish. Of course what we all wish was that it would be fully plant based, but I think t...

Restaurant Information:
Lila (Pronounced Leela)
1576 Main St,
Sarasota, FL 34236

Main Question:
Is the food worth the price?
Answer: Without a doubt and it's not inexpensive.

Food:
Below, I talk about the plant based options because that is what my wife and I had. They have bison burgers, chicken, shrimp and other foods there as well. Their main menu is around plant based food, but they do have other types of food. If that other food is half as delicious as what we had, it will be the best thing you've had in a long time.

This is the best or close to the best plant based restaurant for which we have eaten here in Florida.

I don't even know what we all had. My wife had an amazing potato dish that only she would know what it was, Gnocchi is what the receipt says and I think that was the disk, but it was like the I can't believe it's not butter commercial because I cannot believe how amazing that tasted. Really rich so I do not believe I could eat an entire plate, but wow good!

I had Burmese rice noodle bowl and just wow! The red cabbage was to die for and was the star of that dish while the sauce took over perfectly as the red cabbage dwindled and was eaten up. They offered it to me with raw spinach and light sauce. The only thing that was something that I may have missed is that I don't care for green onions and there was a bunch of them in one spot that I didn't see on the menu, however, since they were in one spot, I was able to easily remove them and give them to my wife who loves them.

They accommodated us with vegetables for their guacamole instead of chips. The guacamole had kale in it and was very good. I am not a fan of kale, but was good.

I did not care for the asparagus sushi roll at all. My wife thought it was good and on par with other places that make it. Not a chance. I won't eat that again here and it didn't taste like asparagus. It was just dry and not pleasant to eat. However, that is not nearly enough points knocked off to ruin this meal or experience or even come close to knocking this place below 7 out of 5 stars, no that's not a typo.

The blueberry cheesecake was awesome! The chocolate mousse dessert was delicious, but too much chocolate for me. Chocoholics! Get the chocolate mousse dessert that is in the middle of their dessert selection.

The tea was fantastic. It was the one with free refills and they kept it filled. It was just delicious.

I was a little disappointed the Kombucha was out of a bottle, but that didn't make it taste any worse. I love Kombucha.

This was a healthy, delicious, expensive alternative to the other restaurants out there.

Atmosphere:
This is cozy inside. I really liked the decorations, everything.

Cleanliness:
The tables, silverware, dishes were all clean. The bathroom needed some help.

Service:
The service was phenomenal. This is what you want when you are at a restaurant. The service we received was top notch. Knowledgeable, accommodating, quick, nice, smiles, and I can go on and on and on because this was an amazing experience. Food, Service and Atmosphere make the meal. This experience and we will be back.

Price:
Expect to spend some money. It was $144.00 for 2 of us to eat here. We did order quite a bit of food and it was worth every penny. If you have the money, want to eat healthy then food is well worth the price. You will savor every penny spent.

Recommended:
This is on my highly recommended list. If you want healthy food that tastes great and you don't mind spending the money, call them and make reservations. (941) 296-1042

"Had vegan blueberry cheesecake with espresso. The cheesecake was good but not perfect. I expected something wow with this price. But it's vegan and gluten-free. I loved the espresso. Next time will try chocolate mousse. The gentleman who served me was awesome!"

"The ambiance and service at Lila were wonderful warm, inviting, and attentive. We really appreciated the chef’s effort to accommodate my request for a white cheese sauce with red sauce on the side. Unfortunately, the flavors didn’t quite meet our expectations. The red sauce lacked seasoning, and my husband felt the same about his soup. While we value the use of fresh, quality ingredients, the overall taste didn’t quite justify the high price point."

BEST Gluten-free Near Sarasota in 2025 – Doordash

Lila is my fav healthy go to restaurant. The spider roll is amazing, yam wedges, the bison burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had. The grass fed steak is amazing. I highly recommend ". "The food was absolutely amazing overall, but I did have an issue with the Brussels sprouts, they were extremely hard, making them nearly impossible to bite into. It was disappointing because the seasoning and sauce on them were fantastic, but unfortunately, I couldn’t fully enjoy them. On the bright side, the yams, sandwich, and dessert were all perfect, easily a 10/10 across the board. Next time, I’d prefer to dine in person to ensure everything is fresh and prepared to my liking. While I loved most of the meal, I feel like I wasted money on the Brussels sprouts, which didn’t live up to the quality of the rest of the dishes.

12:30 p.m.: For a lunch spot that’s hip, healthy and delicious, check out the vegetable-centric restaurant Lila (1576 Main St.; 941-296-1042; lilasrq.com.) The menu is primarily vegetarian or vegan, but even meat-eaters should be won over with dishes like the deceptively simple macro bowl: a meld of chickpeas, kale, avocado and more over a tahini-turmeric dressing that’s teeming with flavor. Lila encourages customization, too, with add-ons including pork or vegan chorizo, a farm egg and more. A favorite lunch dish of mine is their mushroom burger, paired with a side of their addictive sweet potato steak fries.

Best Vegan Restaurants in Sarasota

More than any other restaurant in recent years, Lila has changed the face of Sarasota dining. While the city had been home to a handful of vegetarian, vegan and even raw restaurants before the restaurant opened in 2016, it was Lila that pushed vegetables to the forefront of Sarasota menus. The restaurant’s zingy Burmese bowl will leave you slurping up the dregs of its curry-coconut broth, while the macro bowl’s tahini-turmeric dressing should come by the barrel.

While there are a few meat items featured, Lila takes the extra step to make sure that anything prepared with animal products is done so on a separate cooking surface than vegan options to eliminate the chance of contamination. Downtown Sarasota finally has a vegetarian-friendly restaurant that doesn’t feel like a compromise. Lila serves dishes so fresh and well-prepared you won’t notice that half the menu doesn’t involve meat. The house-made fettuccine with cauliflower is a favorite, but the real star is the grilled Brussels sprouts—charred, smoky, and tossed in something vaguely addictive.

You'd expect Lila, where vegetables are the star, to offer a killer salad, and they do. The restaurant puts a vegan twist on a classic Caesar by combining romaine, "feta" made from almonds, "Parmesan" made from sunflowers and croutons with a dressing free of animal products. Dress it up with tofu, almond falafel or (if you're not full-time vegan) some chicken breast.
