Reviews Summary

Paper Dosa is praised for its authentic and uniquely flavored South Indian cuisine, especially its outstanding dosas, and a warm, artful ambiance. Reviewers often highlight the flavorful yet lighter sauces and generous portions. Some guests have noted that the spice level might be less intense than expected, and a few have found the prices to be a bit high for the portion sizes.

"Oh my, where should I start. Had the best South Indian food for my Birthday. Hector hands-down qualifies as a Kongu naatu Chef. Prawn thokku and chicken Nilgiri gets my heart. Side sambar says it all, most authentic south indian condiments. Greg did a grear service for us."

Yuvaraj Sampath

"Unexpected gem in Santa Fe! Being from Jersey and on vacation, I didn’t expect to find such authentic and flavorful South Indian food here. The rasam, dosa, and especially the idli fries were fantastic—perfectly spiced and full of flavor. The service was good, and the whole experience felt warm and welcoming. Thank you, Paper Dosa, for a delicious and memorable meal!"

Nish Shah

"I recently visited a fantastic Indian restaurant in Santa Fe that offers traditional dishes with a modern twist, such as White Truffle oil dosa and drinks infused with Indian flavors. The ambiance beautifully combines Indian elements with a contemporary touch. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menu and, although the service started a bit slow, they quickly improved. If you’re looking for something different from New Mexican cuisine in Santa Fe, this is an excellent choice. The food isn’t too spicy, making it suitable for non-Indian visitors as well."

Restaurants in Santa Fe

Begun as a catering business that threw occasional pop-up dinners, Paper Dosa became so beloved for its boldly flavored southern Indian cuisine that the owners opened what has become a popular brick-and-mortar restaurant. Dosas (large, thin crepes made with fermented rice and lentils and stuffed with different fillings) are the specialty here and come in about 10 varieties, from paneer and peas to a locally inspired version with green chile and three cheeses. The rest of the menu is just as enticing, with spicy sambar stew, refreshing chile-dusted mango and goat cheese salad, and lamb curry among the stars.

Try the arm-length green chile cheese dosa at South Indian eatery Paper Dosa; the green chili cheeseburger, chased with an Adobe mud shake, at Shake Foundation; and the green chile apple fritter from Whoo’s Donuts. Or, for a different kind of heat, slurp up a bowl of unctuous Caribbean goat stew at Jambo Café, a beloved African restaurant founded by a Kenyan immigrant.

Come by this neighborhood joint with a group of friends, slide into one of their plush orange booths, gaze up at the hanging floral arrangement, and try as many of their artfully-plated dosas as possible. They arrive to tables perfectly crisp and mesmerizingly-golden.

It's a real-deal taste of South India via New Mexico at Paper Dosa, a soulful restaurant with a cozy dining room that feels as relaxed and warm as dining in someone's well-adorned home. The restaurant is a passion project for chef/owner Paulraj Karuppasamy, a native of India, who started out with home-grown pop-ups and catering before debuting a brick-and-mortar dining room in 2015. The menu is a culinary tour of South Indian traditions, starting with shareable appetizers like spicy mango salad, pappadum with chutney, and fritter-like chile and cauliflower pakoras.

The Best Vegan Restaurants Santa Fe: Where to Eat Vegan in Santa Fe

Paper Dosa – the dosa “appetizers” were incredible, and huge (really they are main dishes but I wanted to try a lot of food so treated them as appetizers). I wasn’t blown away by the veggie curry; it was super heavy and the veggies didn’t seem cooked all the way; so maybe order something else. Much of the menu is vegan or can be made vegan, they have a pretty patio and great service.

Paper Dosa: A dosa here is basically a delicious, crispy, non-spongy injera the size of a 20-gallon sombrero. Take that, stuff it with heaven and roll it up, and you have the Indian version of a burrito. Then, there is Paper Dosa's curry...which is so good, like buttercream icing, you lick everything it touched: the fork, the spoon, the bowl, the plate, your eating partner's face...
