Begun as a catering business that threw occasional pop-up dinners, Paper Dosa became so beloved for its boldly flavored southern Indian cuisine that the owners opened what has become a popular brick-and-mortar restaurant. Dosas (large, thin crepes made with fermented rice and lentils and stuffed with different fillings) are the specialty here and come in about 10 varieties, from paneer and peas to a locally inspired version with green chile and three cheeses. The rest of the menu is just as enticing, with spicy sambar stew, refreshing chile-dusted mango and goat cheese salad, and lamb curry among the stars.

Try the arm-length green chile cheese dosa at South Indian eatery Paper Dosa; the green chili cheeseburger, chased with an Adobe mud shake, at Shake Foundation; and the green chile apple fritter from Whoo’s Donuts. Or, for a different kind of heat, slurp up a bowl of unctuous Caribbean goat stew at Jambo Café, a beloved African restaurant founded by a Kenyan immigrant.

There are some great options for Indian food across town, and we like eating at Paper Dosa best. Come by this neighborhood joint with a group of friends, slide into one of their plush orange booths, gaze up at the hanging floral arrangement, and try as many of their artfully-plated dosas as possible. They arrive to tables perfectly crisp and mesmerizingly-golden.

Where Raaga-Go specializes in north Indian classics, Paper Dosa has nearly cornered the market on south Indian favorites like dosas (thin crepe-like pancakes made from fermented rice and lentils) and uttapam (a thicker dosa variant). Chef Paulraj Karuppasamy also cooks up a soul-enriching collection of pan-Indian curries and apps.

Paper Dosa – the dosa “appetizers” were incredible, and huge (really they are main dishes but I wanted to try a lot of food so treated them as appetizers). I wasn’t blown away by the veggie curry; it was super heavy and the veggies didn’t seem cooked all the way; so maybe order something else. An under-the-radar favorite that got its start with private parties and weekly pop-up dinners. La Choza is perfect for classic New Mexican cuisine and great margaritas, while Paper Dosa stands out with its unique South Indian menu. Sasella offers inspired modern Italian cuisine, though it comes with a higher price tag. Cafe Pasquals, reminiscent of Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse, serves fantastic food for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

One of the hottest new restaurants in Santa Fe and one of our favorites is Paper Dosa!. Starting as a pop-up restaurant, Chef Paulraj Karuppasamy and his wife and partner Nellie Tischler, had been serving delicious south Indian food using family recipes. The menu’s stars are dosas, uttapams, and curries.

South Indian cuisine may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Santa Fe, but we have some of the best around. The Gunpowder Dosa at Paper Dosa expertly melds the traditional flavors of South India with the heat and flavor of New Mexico's famous green chile. The results are magical!

If you need a break from (new) Mexican food—although it’s hard to get to that point with so much deliciousness—check out Paper Dosa. The Southern Indian crepes are delightful and I have never seen them come in that size. I also highly recommend the Mushroom Papadam.

Paper Dosa cooks up some amazing southern Indian food that is a little lighter than the northern food many of us know. You can start with a bowl of asparagus soup, have a mung sprout and radish salad and wrap up with a delicious curry if you haven’t had your fill.

Paper Dosa: Sante Fe’s South Indian spot is a local favorite and I believe has been featured in Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. It’s almost entirely gluten free and plenty of vegetarian options. The fryer is gluten free.

And if you’ve had your fill of New Mexican, there are plenty of other options like Jambo, an African-Caribbean fusion spot; Paper Dosa for Indian fare; and Rowley’s or Fire and Hops for hearty brew pub food.

It’s rare to find genuine, authentic Indian cuisine, and this hits the spot!. I’d say this one can’t be missed. We ordered the Classic Masala Dosa, Mysore Chutney Dosa, and Chile and Cilantro Uttapam.

Paper Dosa—A vegetarian’s delight, Paper Dosa is a South Indian restaurant that has so many delicious options to choose from. And their entire menu is naturally gluten-free as well.

Paper Dosa – I am a low-key dosa fanatic, so there is no way I’m going to forego the opportunity to check out this South Indian restaurant on my next trip to Santa Fe.

Paper Dosa is one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe for their flavorful dosas and varied curries. Don’t forget to try their famous masala chai and mango lassi!

I had never had Southern Indian Cuisine until I ate at Paper Dosa. Heck, I had no idea what a dosa was. To me, a dosa is like an oversize crepe.

Trattoria a Mano joins my two other favorites (Sazon and Paper Dosa) as one of my go-tos for a special occasion of guaranteed quality.

We walked in without a reservation and did not have to wait for a table. They serve South Indian Cuisine with beer and wine options.
