Although the name of this cheery bakery suggests sweets, and it does sweets especially well, Chocolate Maven also produces impressive savory breakfast and lunch fare. Meals are "farmers' market–inspired" and feature seasonal dishes, including wild-mushroom-and-goat-cheese focaccia sandwiches, eggs ménage à trois (one each of eggs Benedict, Florentine, and Madison—the latter consisting of smoked salmon and poached egg), and Caprese salad of fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes. A plus for those looking for healthier fare is the option of various plant-based meat options for breakfast or a lunchtime sandwich.

Lovers of baked goods will find the Chocolate Maven a particularly appealing brunch spot, although the menu hardly stops there. Many a brunch item reflect the Chocolate Maven’s penchant for baked goods, from French toasts prepared with apricot compote and even themed ‘crème brûlée’, to a tantalising spread of pancakes, Belgian waffles, pancakes, crepes and blintzes. Brunch entrées air on the savoury side, with southwest-inspired omelettes, scrambles and eggs Benedict spiced with poblano chiles and accompanied by beans.

I don't have streets for either off the top of my head, but you shouldn't have any problem locating them once there.

One other place I have eaten at several times but for some reason never had the breakfast burrito (I do love me a good breakfast burrito) is Chocolate Maven, which is off St. Michael's (actually W. San Mateo) near the interchange with St. Francis. You can get the added bonus of seeing the bakers make their other goodies through a window if you are in the downstairs dining room. I don't think they have chorizo, but they do offer a green chile sausage that is quite tasty.

The Chocolate Maven is located in Santa Fe’s thriving Second Street district, a few miles from the center of town. Not only do they sell delicious chocolate, but they also prepare and sell baked goods and offer breakfast, brunch, and even high tea in their cozy cafe. The Maven has been a Santa Fe staple for decades, with origins over fifty years ago as a tiny Santa Fe pastry shop known for brownies, hot chocolate, and late-night poetry readings.

We’ve yet to come across a baked good the Maven can’t deliver upon, and the biscochitos are no exception. The hand-cut cookies are full on cinammony goodness while also delivering that essential hit of anise. It’s everything one expects from a biscochito, and might we suggest you go for the traditional hot chocolate pairing for a true taste of Santa Fe?

We love coming here for brunch to enjoy the view of pastries in progress and the excellent vegan options. The menu is clearly marked with vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options and most of the menu can be veganized with tofu and vegan cheese- amazing!. Really wish more places would do this, it’s so much appreciated.
