Reviews Summary
Bouchon Santa Barbara is celebrated for its charming French-Californian cuisine and intimate ambiance, making it a top choice for special occasions and romantic dinners. Diners rave about the quality of seafood, expertly prepared meats, and an impressive local wine list. While most experiences are exceptional, a few reviews mention minor service hiccups or a desire for more flavorful dishes.
"This was a phenomenal experience. The tartar was the best I've ever had. The trio of scallops was so amazing. I had seared salmon as a main course and the lemon berry cake was absolutely amazing. Service was above and beyond. So pleased I chose this place. This is a must if you are in Santa Barbara. 10/10"

"A really good place to get local seafood. As a group, we tried the sea bass, lamb, and chicken. The dishes were cooked perfectly, although I do wish the sea bass was more flavorful (it was a little bland). Service was fast and staff were really nice and helpful. Otherwise, it’s in a great location and ambiance is excellent. Overall, highly recommended."

"Definitely the best place if you want good French food in Santa Barbara. If I were to treat my special guest or celebrate a special occasion, I'd pick this place. It's on the pricier side even in SB. The scallops were amazing. And the lamb, too. Friendly staff and great service. I'm personally not a big fan of their interior design, but I can see its appeals."

The Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara in 2023
There's no relation to Thomas Keller's famed Bouchon, but you're not far off. Santa Barbara's Bouchon is wine-country food at its finest. It's not exclusively French bistro cuisine—unlike its Napa sibling-in-name-only—because this charming white-tableclothed hub in the heart of downtown also offers dishes like cabernet-braised short rib with risotto and a serious trio of chilled and seared sea scallops, all to be capped off with the decadent chocolate molten lava cake.

The perfect, unhurried, follow up to a day in the Wine Country is to feast on the bright, flavorful California cooking at pretty Bouchon (meaning ‘wine cork’). A seasonally changing menu spotlights locally grown farm produce and ranched meats that marry beautifully with almost three-dozen regional wines available by the glass. Lovebirds, book a table on the candlelit patio.

Restaurants with Amazing Wine Lists
One of Santa Barbara’s original and longest continually operating wine country cuisine restaurants, Bouchon was created in 1998 by restaurateur Mitchel Sjerven as a stage for Santa Barbara wines to shine (bouchon means “cork” in French). The enduringly popular theatre district restaurant on Victoria Street is known for its warm hospitality, comprehensive collection of regional wines, and Chef Greg Murphy’s thoughtfully crafted meals—you can often spot Chef at the downtown Tuesday Farmers’ Market. Of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence wine list, Sjerven and his sommelier Eric Hanson’s shared goal is to create a balance between “well-known and obscure, old standby and new favorite.” With more than 20 lovely local wines available by the glass, the pairing potential is downright thrilling.
