What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mijoté is widely praised for its intimate, dinner-party-like atmosphere and high-quality French cuisine using fresh Californian ingredients. Guests particularly love the option to sit at the bar for a view of the kitchen and the extensive natural wine list. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few diners have noted that some dishes can lean towards bitter flavors, and service can occasionally feel rushed.
"Had our wedding anniversary here. Totally delicious and would recommend! Plates are fewer but larger portions so you still get your money's worth. Reservations are recommended/almost required."
Ray Anthony Roderos (Knight)
"I felt like we were back in a Michelin starred restaurant in Provence eating here. I loved sitting at the counter and watching the sou chefs prepare and dress the dishes. It was the first time since then that we got to enjoy Monkfish. A rare find! And cooked beautifully with a light curry sauce. We did the 4 course option and were stuffed after, it was a lot of food but well priced! The strawberry gelato desert with geranium foam was a memorable and perfect ending to the rich meal. The staff was attentive. We will definitely go back as they change their menu daily. Truly an unexpected gem to find on a random corner of the mission."

"The overall experience work the guest chef was incredible. Whoever stated the menu was too heavily carb or fat intense clearly did not do their homework. The flavor was insane and the overall selection of food was beyond what was expected for the menu of the day. I was blown away by the service, atmosphere, and chef collaboration. I wish I would have taken more photos but was enjoying my time in the experience of it all too much. Kelsey was overwhelmingly helpful with the drink options too. I will be back for more!"

40 Absolute Best Restaurants In San Francisco, Ranked
Mijoté is a French restaurant nestled deep in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District. Mijoté was given its name after the French word for 'simmered,' which holds a special place in Chef Kosuke Tada's heart since it was nearly the first French word he learned in culinary school. At this Bay Area-based bistro, farm-fresh Californian ingredients are welcomed into the kitchen by knowledgeable chefs who then utilize the natural bounty of their surroundings to create the ultimate French menu.

The chef is Japanese and the space is a former sushi restaurant, but Mijoté is the closest you’ll come to dining in contemporary Paris. Co-owner Kosuke Tada was the chef at Le 6 Paul Bert, a neo-bistro that’s a darling of the international, natural wine guzzling, cool-kid culinary set. His four-course set menu ($82) changes at least weekly and melds technique with the season’s bounty.
