Omakase at Sushi Tadokoro in San Diego, a Michelin starred restaurant. We stay frugal for most things but we don't hold back on food😋. To me good food is consumable art. The moments are priceless. #omakasesushi #sushitadokoro #sandiegocalifornia #foodlover #foodie

Reviews Summary

Sushi Tadokoro offers a highly acclaimed traditional Edomae-style sushi experience, earning a Michelin star for its meticulous preparation and exceptional quality. Diners praise the incredibly fresh fish, particularly the uni and toro, and the intimate setting of the sushi bar. While the food and service are consistently lauded, some guests note that the initial greeting can feel abrupt, and the parking situation requires planning.

"It's been many years since I first ate at Sushi Tadokaro, but sensei has not lost his touch! His Omakase was brilliant many years ago and it was again brilliant at my most recent visit. Who knew that baby barracuda could be so delicious! Of course the uni from the California waters was creamy and delicious as it was many years ago. Make sure you make an appointment 1 month before on Tock when reservations open. Run don't walk here and don't be out off by the fact that it is located in a somewhat ratty, tiny strip mall and is located next to a liquor store. It's chairman to find off you've never been."

Millie Kwan

"Sushi Tadokoro offers one of San Diego’s most authentic and refined sushi experiences. Located in Mission Hills in a modest, intimate setting, the restaurant impresses with beautifully prepared sushi and sashimi crafted by skilled chefs who honor traditional techniques. The fish is consistently fresh, delicate, and of exceptional quality. Attentive and knowledgeable service enhances the dining experience, making it perfect for sushi purists or those seeking genuine Japanese cuisine."

Andrew Lim

"Upon entering, it was immediately apparent that this establishment would be a delightful experience. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly hostess and promptly seated. The owner and chef were exceptionally personable and well-informed. The cuisine was simply outstanding, featuring incredibly fresh ingredients. I highly recommend the Umi and the Eel, though everything on the menu is certainly worth exploring. I fully intend to return to this hidden treasure."

The 10 best restaurants in San Diego, according to our critic

The excellence of the Japanese restaurants in San Diego merits further discussion in general, but if you’re seeking an antidote to a hectic day of crowds and appreciate outstanding sushi, consider making a reservation at Sushi Tadokoro. Like so many great sushiyas in Southern California, it hides in a low strip mall and the space is tiny: 10 seats at the bar, seven additional tables. Takeaki Tadokoro and his chefs prepare dishes either a la carte or as part of a $160 omakase meal.

Review: Addison - San Diego

I've had kinmedai many times before (in fact, just the preceding night at Sushi Tadokoro), but only now did I learn its English name: “splendid alfonsino”. With a name like that, expectations can't help but being high. The fish was served with its scales cooked (popped) using hot oil, a Japanese preparation technique.
