Reviews Summary

Caputo's Market & Deli is highly praised for its authentic Italian sandwiches and extensive specialty food market, particularly its impressive chocolate selection. Diners rave about the freshness and flavor of the sandwiches and the unique, high-quality products available in the market. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, one reviewer reported a negative encounter regarding allergen information and service for a child.

"The roast beef sandwich is amazing! My only regret was that I did not order a whole, but only half. The best part of the flavor profile was the horseradish mustard, even though I'm generally not a mustard fan. My partner got the "Old School," which he also enjoyed. Please check out the market! There's a very large and unique collection of chocolates. While their menu no longer serves tiramisu, you can purchase the Caputo's frozen options in the fridge on the market side by the cheese cave! The tiramisu is really good, which contains ~4-5 servings. Will certainly be coming back here."

"This place has it all! It’s so fun to shop here for fun, fresh things. They have everything from deli and seafood to coffee and chocolate. (Emphasis on the chocolate - if you’re a chocolate lover, you have to stop by here!) Don’t forget to get a sandwich here too, they’re so fresh and have tons of flavor. Such a fun vibe, and makes you excited to come back soon."

Kymble Johnson

"I only have one word for this place — AMAZING! Okay, here are a few more words.

While traveling to SLC, my friend asked me to stop by and pick up a few chocolate bars that they exclusively carry: Holm Friis, a brand from Denmark with very limited distribution in the U.S. Well, I found those bars when I got here, but I also discovered an entire store full of amazing, hard-to-find products. There were literally hundreds of specialty chocolate bars — but they also carried so many other international foods.

I spent a good amount of time looking at the chocolate, trying to decide which ones to get for myself. Then a staff member, who noticed me deliberating, came over to help. They gave me lots of information and shared some of their favorites, which made my selection much easier.

After that, I spent the next 20 minutes just wandering through the store and ogling all of the excellent products they carry. For anyone coming to SLC, this is a must-stop.

They also have a deli area where you can get fresh-made sandwiches to eat there or take to go. We had a flight out later that afternoon, so they happily packed them up for us.

Super nice and efficient service. Excellent products. A well-organized store. And they ship some products for free — including chocolate. How cool is that!"

Food classes in Utah can take you from beginner to 'foodie'

Caputo’s — with locations in downtown Salt Lake City, in the 15th & 15th neighborhood, and in Holladay — is a prized source for fine cheeses, chocolate, cured meats, oils and vinegars, small-batch bitters, tinned seafood, dried pasta and so much more. Its selection represents hundreds of food producers around the world, and it’s often the place where home cooks know they can get that one special ingredient. But Adri Pachelli, senior manager and director of education at Caputo’s, wants people to know that you don’t have to be a foodie to shop at Caputo’s.

I have also teamed up in the past with Tony Caputo to make risotto and other tasty dishes at the enjoyable Caputo’s Market & Deli (314 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City, CaputosDeli.com) cooking and wine classes. But Caputo’s classes aren’t merely fun and tasty; they can be quite transformative, often challenging preconceptions and exposing overblown industry claims about products. These days, Tony’s son Matt teaches most of the food courses, with Francis Fecteau of Libation, Inc., handling the wine education duties.

While not your typical sit-down restaurant, Caputo’s is our next Italian restaurant in Salt Lake City for it’s speciality cheeses, meats, chocolate, and other regional Italian foods. The employees here are incredibly knowledgable and will help you find exactly what you need, and situated beside the market is a Deli that serves up fantastic Italian sandwiches. We recommend their most popular sandwich, The Caputo – prosciutto, mortadella, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, olive oil, and balsamic.

Our Go-To Takeout Recommendations

Putting food aside for a moment, Caputo’s deserves a shoutout for the willingness and selflessness without which they’ve stepped up to try and serve their community in recent weeks. That said, their lineup of sandwiches is arguably one of the best in the city and we’d gladly dig into a meatball sub or towering Italian sando from them any day. Throw in one of their famous chocolate chip cookies and you’ve got yourself a meal.

Sometimes it’s me wishing the adorable cheese shop with the knowledgeable staff is down the street, other times I want to attend one of their awesome classes. (Seriously, check out their classes on cheese, chocolate, wine, and everything in between!) But lately I’ve been thinking about the Hot Pastrami Sandwich. What should be a simple sandwich of pastrami, mustard, and cheese, is somehow mind-blowingly good.
