Mercy Tavern (148 Derby St. 978-741-4436) is a cozy, eclectic pub situated near the harbor with live music on the weekends and comfort food made with New England ingredients, such as pumpkin ravioli with fried leeks and broccoli rabe and a fun lobster roll dressed up with roasted corn, caramelized shallots and bacon aioli.

I’m married to a pizza aficionado so wherever we travel, we find the best pizza shops and dive into eating all the pizza and that’s what happened at Bambolina, home to hand crafted, wood fired pizzas. Italian “00” flour, San Marzano style tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and a 925° hand made wood-burning oven imported from Italy make this the best pizza you’ll ever have. We went with the classic Margherita because that’s the best way to enjoy this hand crafted pie – the simpler the better!.

(You know, like, not delivery-style pizza but up-scale Italian wood-fired pizza) Awesome all around. The owner also owned a ramen noodle place called Kokeshi, and during the pandemic, they closed it and shared one kitchen and would only offer Kokeshi for take-out. I guess they decided to close Kokeshi for good and just add all of their asian meals to Bambolina’s menu permanently.

The neo-Neapolitan style pizza that these guys serve is so close to authentic, you’d think you were right in Naples. Bambolina crafts their dough using only four ingredients – fine milled flour, salt, water, and yeast. Their pizzas are topped lightly, with pecorino Romano, mozzarella cheese, and sauce made from san Marzano tomatoes, in order to bring out the true flavors of Italy.

It’s located in the heart of Salem MA and is an Italian-style pizza place that has delicious pies and abundant specialty drinks. My favorite is the wild mushroom pizza, which comes on a homemade crust with pancetta (Italian bacon) topped with garlic ricotta cream sauce, fontina and mozzarella cheese, along with mushrooms and fresh basil. Their garlic knots are addictive!
