Schlafly is a local brewery that brings the community together. The brewery itself, known as Bottleworks, offers free beer schools where those interested can learn about the history of Schlafly, the brewing process, and more interactive features. Bottleworks also hosts tours of the facilities, so you can see with your very own eyes how such delicious beer is made.

Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust Street, 314-241-2337) is a brewpub that regularly hosts three- and four-band local bills of every genre from folk to noise — which is to say, pretty much every genre (best of all, shows are always free). .Zack (3224 Locust Street, 314-533-0367), the new multi-purpose space in the building where Plush once sat, will also feature live music once it is fully operational. Chaifetz Arena (1 S. Compton Avenue, 314-977-5000), a 10,000-seat affair on the campus of Saint Louis University, brings in big names in every genre from rap to country to standup comedy.

Difficult to say but easy to love, Schlafly is a craft beer pioneer in the city with the country’s best beer scene. Although meticulous about consistency, the brewery is in a constant state of exploration, and its repertoire of more than 60 styles of beer ranges from classic to experimental. Founded in 1991, Schlafly has become the largest locally owned craft brewery in Missouri. It has two locations in St. Louis: the Tap Room in downtown St. Louis and the newer Bottleworks in Maplewood—both of which are excellent spots to grab dinner and a pint of its popular Pale Ale or Hefeweizen Ale. Between these two locations, Schlafly brews more than 60 styles of beer, including seasonal favorites like the Summer Lager and the Oktoberfest.

Hometown Budweiser might call itself the King of Beers, but St. Louis craft beer aficionados flock to Schlafly and its taprooms around the city. In addition to the delightfully varied beer menu, the taprooms serve up tasty fare like Jägerschnitzel and vindaloo curry. The flagship taproom in Midtown is a 10 minute drive from the Arch, but there's ample parking.

Luckily for us, one of Schlafly's several brewpubs is located on Locust Street – just a few minutes from Enterprise Center. Come in for elevated bar food like poutine and shepherd's pie, and try one of Schlafly's beers, like its seasonal coffee stout. The brewery has offered food since day one, all the way back in 1991. The whole idea of The Schlafly Tap Room was to emulate the English pub, and they knew that the food aspect of that was going to be very important. Now with three locations, the menu’s created by Adam Wagner is loaded with traditional menu items.

Another brewery tour, this low-key tour is offered on Sundays. Just show up and ask. You get to see the largest locally-owned independent brewery in St. Louis, and learn about the ways the corporate behemoth (see above) tried to squash the growing craft brewery scene in the Midwest.

The Schlafly Tap Room, located in a beautifully restored historic building, offers a casual setting to enjoy European pub fare paired with a selection of over 16 Schlafly draft beers. Open daily, it’s a great place to unwind and enjoy good food and drink.

Saint Louis Brewery is the largest independently-owned brewery in the state. Choose from many unique styles on tap and in cans, including their signature stouts and IPAs. On the weekends, this brewery offers tours with free samples at the end!

The Eliot Room hosts live rock music every Friday and Saturday night from locals like The Union Electric, The Skekses, and The Pat Sajak Assassins; the dining area hosts gentler offerings, e.g., live Bluegrass Picks on Sundays.

If you want a good reason other than beer to visit a local brewery, you now have one. At Schlafly, the warm, super moist sponge cake made from dates sits in a pool of toffee sauce with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

In all fairness, our craft brewery phenomenon is still pretty new. Craft breweries in Boston, Portland, Denver, and the like have been doing this for a while, and we've really only had Schlafly during that time.
