"We came in as a walk-in party of 2,
they had a bit of a wait but that didn’t matter to us we were excited heard good things, so we had to give it a try.
Amazing coffee drinks, delicious food and attentive service.
Huge, huge fans of this cute and cozy place in The Grove.
We will definitely be coming back!"

"Amazing breakfast! We went here early on a weekday and we were not disappointed!

While they do take reservations, we had no issue getting a spot early. They have a large indoor seating area, as well as outdoor seating. I would recommend a reservation as this place does fill up quick, especially on the weekends.

We got two breakfast sandwiches, and I would highly recommend adding the tomato. It was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had. Amazing flavor and fresh.

We also had two mocktails…and we were shocked the beet juice one was our favorite. Super fresh and tasty.

The best part was the attentive service, where they make you feel like Home. Multiple people checked on us and took care of us. We can’t wait to come back."

Brent Pearson

"Cute and fun little spot for Breakfast, Brunch or Lunch. Freshly sourced ingredients bring the charm into each bite. Atmosphere is artsy means cafe. The staff are friendly and attentive which makes for a great dining experience."

The 20 best breakfast dishes at St. Louis restaurants

A controversial, if hedged statement: the exceptional breakfast sandwich at Songbird (egg, cheese and optional bacon with honey and sea salt), the sandwich that built a fan base at the Tower Grove Famers Market years before the cafe opened in Forest Park Southeast, might not be my favorite dish here. To be clear, I love the Classic sandwich. But I love Songbird’s sesame-seed bialy (sort of like a bagel, though not boiled, and lacking the bagel’s hole) with silky house-cured Scottish salmon lox, cream cheese, capers, pickled onion and a sieved egg maybe a skosh more.

A Food Lover's Guide to St. Louis City

The lovely Songbird(4476 Chouteau Avenue, 314-781-4344), located just blocks from the Grove on the northern edge of Forest Park Southeast, is a perfect reason to get up for breakfast after a wild night out in the bars down the street — or a reason to call it a night early. The food is locally sourced and lovingly prepared, and the thoughtful service is a far cry from what you'll get at high-volume breakfast spots. Mains include several breakfast sandwiches — the must-try Classic put the restaurant on the map — a kale frittata and a breakfast tamale.

St. Louis' best new restaurants of 2021

Songbird owners Chris Meyer and Mike Miller are the brains behind what’s arguably become St. Louis’ most popular breakfast sandwich. The pair, who also own Kounter Kulture and prepared foods brand Field to Fire, have become fixtures at the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market selling The Combo, which features aged white Cheddar, crispy bacon, a fried egg, sea salt and a drizzle of honey. A study in simplicity and the importance of sourcing local, high-quality ingredients, the sandwich soon had hungry shoppers lining up in droves for it each Saturday.

Songbird rose to local fame with their farmers' market sandwich – toasted buttery bread with a fried egg, thick-cut bacon, cheddar and a spicy honey drizzle – all local ingredients.
