Diners appreciate the vibrant atmosphere and friendly service, though some note that service can be slow when busy and occasional dishes might be slightly too salty. Overall, it's a highly recommended spot for comfort food and a lively dining experience.
"We first came to Fixins because we saw they were dog friendly and we had a nice dinner out on the patio. This time around we ate inside at a communal table. They were super packed due to grad week, but the service was still great. The shrimp and grits was my personal favorite. I’m actually craving it as I write this review. My dad gave his fried fish a 9!"

"Wife wanted to come here for a long time. We finally did and it was a hit. We made a reservation that morning. I’m glad we did as there was line when we showed up. No waiting. We missed going to South in downtown Sac. This is an excellent substitute. Loved the authentic Southern food - from the main dishes - gumbo and fried chicken - to the sides - fried catfish and corn bread. Yum!"

"Absolutely loved this place!! The food, the ambiance and the service were A-1!! Those deep fried deviled eggs were so yummy! The prices were reasonable for the amount of food you get. Nice size portions. The wait staff were helpful and friendly. The oxtails were tender and flavorful. The greens were yummy as well. Can’t wait to go to this place again!!"

The oxtails were delicious and tender, the rice and gravy was good. The greens were just a little salty but still very good and the yams were so good and not too sweet but just right. s best restaurants: Where to eat in 2021
Fixins, the Oak Park soul food restaurant opened by ex-mayor Kevin Johnson and partners in late 2019, is known for its zingy fried chicken – and we’re here to report that yes, its crunch holds up to a takeout or delivery trip across town during this restaurant-unfriendly year. But we’re even bigger fans of the kitchen’s rich, deep stews and braises, such as the ultra-savory oxtail with brown gravy or the plump shrimp with creamy grits, smothered in piquant sauce. We’ll be glad to get back to the friendly brick-walled dining room with its vibrant art, but in the meantime, we’re happy we can get the chicken and waffles, tender collards, and peppery mac and cheese at home.
